The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Greetings All,

I'm sure there are many threads tucked away on just this topic, so I hope you'll forgive me for starting another one. Rest assured I've done some research before I fired this up.

I plan on throwing together a set of Colonial Marine Armour, so naturally I'll need a Pulse Rifle. This is one of those props I really have kinda always wanted, so now I'm regretting not picking one up years ago. For one thing, Parks Sabers' Zeno Rifle might still have been available...

Making my own from air soft guns or gun parts probably isn't really an option. Getting that stuff into Australia is a hassle at the best of times, for gun parts you'd need a permit and air soft weapons are outright banned unless you get it deactivated first, and most sellers I've encountered don't give that option at their end, but understandably so.

At the moment my best options seem to be a resin model from Spat over at the Spatcave, or a HCG replica from eBay. Generally speaking I prefer to go metal over resin, but by all accounts the Spat version is pretty sturdy, and the HCG has some issues. Also this is for con use, so weight has to be a consideration. And a HCG is another 600+ on the price of the whole kit.

So if people could give me their thoughts or opinions, or even some other options, I'd appreciate it.

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

Welcome Magnus,

You did a good summary of the past PR topics.

The HCG PR is a great for sure.
As you wrote when weight and money counts than Spat’s PR is a good/better option.
I have both and can second that statement.

There are plenty of options to “tune” Spat’s PR  if you want to spend some money.

As you can see from other topics there are re-caster of Spat’s PR.
My humble advice: Don’t buy from them! You don’t save money on buying poor quality.

Looking forward to see you at DragonCon,
Frank

The main issue with the HCGs is the barrel droop.

Some don't have it, some a little and some more.

Mine has it, but whenever anyone's looked at or held it, they've not noticed it if I haven't told them about it.

So, either go for Spat's Spulse and have fun building and painting it (there's a guide on Spat's site to help) or buy an HCG. 8)
