Recently there have been a few posts announcing presentations of Aliens Legacy Gold (ALG) Awards. Some of the newer members might have no idea what they refer to, or have seen them in passing but still aren't exactly sure what's going on... this is just a brief summary to make things clear.

The ALG was started in 2007 as a way of recognising board members and fans who have done noteworthy things for Aliens fandom. It could be anything from providing useful services, taking the lead in event organisation, or just being extremely helpful on the board! The award itself consists of a certificate and a dropship wings badge in gold - something that has never been available to buy.

When the award was inaugurated there was a kind of pipe-dream that it might be nice one day to give them to some of the actors. Well, this has really taken off and now many of the actors (and some crew) have been presented with ALGs, usually at public events.

To see a pictorial list of who has an ALG, look at the Wall of Fame. (At time of writing this is not quite up to date as the recent additions have yet to go up. )

Although it is nice to include the actors, the award is and always has been primarily for us: the board members, the fans. Fandom is not real life, it's supposed to be fun. We're all here because we love Aliens and the spirit of family that is found on this board is often remarked upon. Receiving an award doesn't make anyone better than anyone else - it's just a nod, in appreciation of what they've done for the board and its members. If one of us has an ALG then you know it was earned - unlike those actors who did nothing but appear in the film. Oh, plus you get the right to display gold wings as part of your signature.

The actual presentations can be done at any time or place, although they seem to have gravitated to the annual events in Atlanta and Leicester, where they can be done in front of an audience of our peers. That doesn't mean you should wait all year to make nominations though!

There are no 'requirements for entry'. If you feel you know someone who deserves an ALG, just PM one of the moderators and they will take it from there. Likewise, if you know of an upcoming event where one of the actors or crew will be attending (and doesn't already have one - check the Wall) please let them know.
