The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey everyone!
I'm new here but not to Sci-Fi costuming.
I'm picking up the Pulse Rifle kit from the Spatcave and making my own armour from Sintra.
I was just wondering if anyone's done the armor in German Flectarn? That's what i'll be doing.
Nice to meet you all and hope to see some of you next year at Dragon con.

Thanks very much, I'll certainly take some photos of it.
It shouldn't be too tough, just a few stencils and some spray paint should do it.

You know its made of dots right??
An airbrush might be the best option, that's how the Predator guys do the patterns for the skin.

The most exotic camouflage jobs out there right now are mine in Cadpat...

and Sid's in Swedish M90.

You can see more or less how I made the patter here: http://www.pbase.com/sharpuscm/uscm_armour

Cadpat?
Man, that would drive me crazy! Looks great though!

And yes, most of the Flectarn pattern is dots, but if you look at it closely, there are larger patches that will work well with a stencil.
Stencils and an airbrush, that's my plan. Now to see if it works.

That was something I was going to do once upon a time.

In keeping with the look of the USCM, are you going to get the desert Flecktarn (or tropentarn I think) BDU's to go with it?

I've got some and I think they work well with the armour, especially if it was painted Flecktarn.

Also note I also got a Flecktarn Helmet cover (got a Desert one too, to match BDU's, I will swap it with), and a full webbing set inc. a holster in Flecktarn

Martin,
Looks great.
I'm going to keep the whole thing standard Flectarn, mostly because I have limited time to do this (the Comic Con here is Oct 28th and I work full time, am a Blacksmith part time {hence the nickname} and, with my wife, own and operate a hobby/military surplus store) so I have to do what I can with the time constraints that I'm given.
It should go pretty well though.
Pedro

Cool Pedro, well maybe something to look for in the future?

IMHO the contrast looks better between the armour and BDU's, if it isn't all the same colour/pattern.

Look forward to seeing the completed costume on here mate and more importantly Kudos on Flecktarn choice. Love both standard and the Tropentarn.
I think if wearing Flecktarn, maybe use a camo patten closer to the film on the armour? The contrast will work.

Martin LOVE the Tropentarn get up mate. Going to have to do something like that one day.

If I may ask what is SINTRA?

I got a sheet of aluminium sheet plate 1000mm x 750mm x 1mm to make a start one day on a steel set, when I feel capable of tackling it that is LOL As a Blacksmith what would be the best way Pedro?

First, given the price of aluminum, I'd say either practice on scraps, or find someone who's adept at forming sheet. The greaves (leg protection) will be the easiest, you can form the Al over a pipe with a rubber mallet. The biggest challenges are the knee cops and forming the shallow dish for the body. Subtle is the watchword here.
A leather dishing hammer and a sandbox are probably your best bet. If you don't want the sand to leave a signature on the metal, then cover it with thick canvas and keep the sand off of it. Otherwise I think a rough look would be good.
It's not easy but it could be done. I'm only using Sintra (a heat formed plastic) because it's cheap and fast and takes paint fairly well. I can get it in black too so that helps if the paint chips off.
Luckily some of my friends are Fandalorians and have made, between then, about a half-dozen Mando costumes out of Sintra. They swear by it. So I have them to talk to if the going get's rough.

Thank`s Pedro, though I was thinking chest armour first, "In for a penny, in for a pound" as they say. Using Spats as armour as template but giving more overlay due to my height and build (Spats armour not really for ppl over 6ft1 and I`m 6ft5-6 LOL but it`s worked so far).

The sheet of aluminium cost me £10 so not to bad I thought and will be getting a second sheet for greaves etc later on. I do have 2 small size pieces just to practice at shaping when I get chance (probably winter months) and hopefully the chest armour too.
