The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Horrocks's Service Charlies/Dress Blue Deltas

I bought a Short Sleve Khaki shirt from Camp Pendleton, as used with the Service Charlies and the (Dress Blue) Deltas. Under $20 on base with no tax.

I took it over to the local italian suit guy that's pretty good with fitting and modifications. Too bad he's not cheap. He said he could do the collar, but there wasn't enough material to do the pocket flaps as seen in the movie (I took the still frame print in). He said the best he could do was cut them straight accross and you see here.
Being that the flaps on the uniforms today aren't big enough to do up the USCM Khakis, I think that the USMC khaki uniforms today are different from the ones in the 1980s, or at least to whatever they used in the film. I guess I'll keep an eye out in Goodwill stores looking for older military khakis with larger pocket flaps.

I then dug out some Starbase Atlanta patches, found an old oversized US flag patch from my military patch collection, and took it over to the local cleaners to have them put it on. I know I should probably do it myself, but I'd rather pay the $6 to have a professional do it. It just looks so much crisper.
But then I didn't know they were going to press a crease into my patches! oh well.

This shirt came out a slight bit off from screen accurate, and it's not complete, but I'll be bringing it.

2012 UPDATE:

I got the white border patch on, and the name tapes from camo tech.

Looks good! Do you have name badges/patches and the ship's patch enroute?

If not, you should easily be able to pick up a Sulaco patch at DCon- getting it attached however...sewing, or Fabric-tac can help!

If you ever find the ellusive white border flag patch, consider swapping it for the one you have.

I'll be putting my National Defense ribon and Rifle Expert badge on tonight. I hope!

I have the Sulaco patch... I'm not sure about putting it on.

It's not just the white border flag, it's also the oversized earlier one. What I used, was what I dug out of my collection of patches. It's the only oversized U.S. flag I had in stock. Now that I know what to look for, I should be able to scrounge up a few through the circles of collectors that I'm in. Might take a year or so though.

Oh and before someone goes apesnot quoting the "no links to live auctions" rule, this is one of the very few exceptions: a regularly offered item in a ebay store.

I'm just a few days away from meeting up with one of my usual out of state suppliers... So I'll see if he has any first. I'd rather buy a bunch of vintage military patches for $1 or $2 or $3 in person, than on evilbay.

I picked up 3 of the over-sized white border US Flag patches, but these things ended up being HUGE!

They measure 4.75" x 3"

So what do you guys say? Should I just order up the 3.5" x 2.5" patch instead?

Aaron, I'm in need of a couple of those patches too. Any info on how/where to get them would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I spent the last 6 months looking for these over-sized white border patches. And I bought all three that this dealer in Idaho had. If I find more, I'll definitely snag them up; for personal use and for people here.

I compared the stills from the screen to the name tapes in person. I trimmed the edges, and placed them to get the spacing right. 1/8" is generally the spacing for items on a Marine khaki shirt, but that was too small for Gorman's Service Charlies. By doubling that to 1/4", it was looking pretty good. When I took this top to the dry cleaners, I asked for 1/4", but I didn't notice that they sowed them at 1/8" until I got home. I guess they're too used to sowing actual uniforms? Oh well.
