The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi All,

Not long back, just had one of the best weekends ever, and am now paying for it..............sooo, so tired, but so worth it.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard, were so friendly and just did the most fantastic job.

Everybody worked their collective butts off and a one helluva event was the result.

Hats off to everyone involved, the twentieth anniversary of Aliens was definitely celebrated in style!

Will post more pic's and words later, but here is a little something to be going on with.................

Fun doesn't begin to cover it!

Al Matthews is a legend, what a top guy, had us entertained in the bar until some obscene hour on both nights!

I said 'Hi' to him on your behalf and how grateful we are that you and he got talking in the first place and dispelled the myth of his demise!

He said to say 'Hi' back and that he's really looking forward to seeing you guy's at Dragoncon.

You'd better have a good cure for a hangover ready! :)

Cheers,

Andy.

What an amazing time I had. Thanks to Malika, Teri, Harry, General Geordi and everybody else for organising such a great day. And special thanks to Alex for sneaking me in as an extra into the AE for a couple of trips, and to Jez for giving me a scare (Alex didn't tell me an Alien would come in from behind me  ) as a dieing , thanks guys . :D

And really nice to have an event run between so many groups in harmony, and to get to come face to face with people I've chatted to on boards for years. I spent a lot of the day flitting between AL/UKCM/UKG/Hyde Fundraisers, feeling as at home with each group as the others.

HIGHS

Getting the chance to take part in AE. Everybody involved did such a great job, it really did look and feel the biz. And yes I'd agree, every bit as good as Alien War. Yeah it was in a smaller space, but this just created a really clostrofobic feel. Awesome!

Meeting lots of great people. And getting a chance to chat about anything. :D

Meeting and talking to Al Matthews as he was coming into the event, he said "We're all CRAZY!" (in a good way), "I've never seen so many s in one place, you guys are the best!", and warned me for calling him sir saying "Do I look like an officer? I work for a living, that's Sargeant, !" (so in character it was great).

Being stopped for photo's all over the place.

Watching Jo transform from babe to monster as soon as she put the Alien costume on, even without the gloves on she looked the part and was moving about the changing room like the real thing. Cool!

Andy's smartgun. Top prop, great sounds (which I'm sure he's not ever getting bored with, "LETS ROCK!"). Hope you're able to get the ammo drum fixed mate.

Walking about the place as a USCM! It feels so cool to wander about as a USCM. 8)

Getting a chance to see all the cool prop displays, ohhhh shiney. :D

Even enjoyed guarding the main turnstyles, and opening the side door for those who needed assistance. :)

LOWS

Trying to find the hotel friday night, hotel staff couldn't give direction if they're life depended on it.

Waiting to see the Back to the Future Delorien only to find it was an unmodified Delorian. :|

Having to go home (early - ish, well I'd have liked to stay much later) during the BBQ and miss Sunday :(

What a day. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, where the heck do I start?!

The entire weekend was just surreal! But it was absolutely fantastic. At times I wished hard I had me a set of armour and BDUs to walk about with and strut my stuff with the rest of you guys. But at other times, I was thankfull to be in "civilian" attire. I had a wonderfull weekend chatting to Terry and Al, uninterrupted by photo requests.

Ya'll in armour were fantastic. Al was fantastic, the punters loved it all.
Its was great to meet you all in person and you're all great people. I love every minute of it all. It doesn't get any better!

For those of you who are thinking "who the hell am I?" I was the uncostumed gopher tagging along with Rev Scapegoat and JediFraz doing odd jobs and generaly helping where I could.

Also known as Sandy

I have one question.... "how do I get INTO this chicken shit outfit?"

<span style="font-size:xx-small;]I'll get me coat....

Well I have just escorted Harris (your commanding officer and enough stars on his lapel to make a Big Mac and fry chips!), Jon, Kev, Geordi, Gareth, Karen and Terry out of the building (tried to keep a few boxes behind - Hudson mainly - but Harris was still on the ball!)

Have shed a few tears cos it is all over and I am KNACKERED, but I wouldn't change a thing.

To all the people who put in so much effort to put it together (too many to name and shame) I cannot thank you enough.

Some of you will be aware that people have been working since January to put this all together, all in their free time and at their own expense. All your praise must be laid at their feet, without them the AE would have never happened, we would have had 1.3 Marines, the displays would not have blown me away and we wouldn't have had such a stunning event.

I have to agree with the earlier comment about the three groups all working together so well. I love the UKG and have worked with them many times, so it was great to add the AL and Hyde guys and gals to the party (and all you exewingers) and discover we all got on so well.

I am now going home to sleep for a week, get the smell of barbeque out of my clothes and plan STAR WARS WEEKEND.

Thank you to Malika, Harry, Kev, Geordi, Karl and all the lovely people from the various costuming groups, the staff at the Space Centre and the staff at the hotel.

*Especially Malika for going the extra mile on Saturday night and not only providing us with free beer, but manning the barbeque as well.respect! :)

Just like to echo what houndofculaine said;

All the groups worked really well together, so well in fact, that to me it was just like one big group all pulling in the same direction........outstanding.

The Alien Encounter was also superb guy's, hats off to all of you.

I don't know how difficult it was to put it together but I'm guessing 'not easy' would be an understatement.

Very, very impressed.

Karls make up display was fantastic, as were the guys who got made up as Borgs, Harry's display has found it's natural second home, The Hyde fundraisers were doing a sterling job as ever, the 'bug hunt' was fun but nearly killed the marines involved, so much went on going to have to write more when it's sunk in.

Cheers,

Andy.

I discovered towards the end of yesterday just what fun you guys had been having all weekend when we threw the predator in for that one show. Great Fun. It was also fun having a walkthrew myself and I still jumped in places even though I knew what to expect!!
May I just say it was pleasure to meet all you guys and work along side you. Kudos must go to Geordi, Jez and all the other guys for putting the AE together.
Just one more question:-

When can we do it again?

ABSOLUTELY BADASS

What a fantastic weekend, was great to meet many new faces, and catch up with some old ones as well. The different groups worked so well together and there was a real friendly atmosphere .Malika and co looked after us so well as usual.
The bug hunt was a killer but so much fun,it took the kids a while to get going but once they did we had them running everywhere, and after the kill we came out to a heros welcome.
The AE far exceeded my expectations it was awsome and so glad i got to be involved and with my Smartgun to boot( we were concerned about injuring someone so i stayed out till the last few runs) cheers for squeezing me in guys it really made my weekend.
I have very little recolection of the social saturday ,and am not looking forward to my credit card bill.
Got to spend a couple of hours in the bar with THE SARGE ,Mantroon Bazfish Tony Velda on friday/sat morning, which was great after a hellish day, sorry i missed the rehersal.
The prop displays were awsome. Thanks to Sidewinder for letting me play with all your lovely shiney things. That minigun is soooooo cool.
My ammodrum fell off on the saturday(the feed tray shattered, oddly enough while i was just stood there it just went, i was hoping it would've held but was expecting it to give way.Matt did tell me id need a real one to hold the drum on so dont worry Matt thats not a dig the gun held up really well and was put under quite a bit of stress especially during the bug hunt great peice of kit.
Thanks to Phil for the sound board I will never tire of the start up sound " LETS ROCK".
Thanks for all the great comments on my Smartgun rig.
Thanks to everyone who took part in making this such a success, and really look forward to the next time.
