The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Yeah, the French "Fusiliers Marins" have berets as well:

Of course, as far as dress uniforms go, they wear this:

Maybe we could go that way. Would make things easier for me - I still have one of those.

Nope. All infantry, ground, airborne or seaborne is done by the Army. We do it ALL baby! Although vessel boarding is done by the Navy itself.

OK, wasn't sure they hadn't, but heard they are thinking about it though?

Got me confused though now by what you meant by 'Not these Marines' with your military pic? :?

Well I'm proud to say that I've lost enough weight to close the bottom part of my Dress Blues jacket! Woooooot!!

I've begun putting together my uniform. Ordered my ribbons, and won a cover off ebay! I'll be ordering the belt sometime soon. I've a pair of Dress Blues pants, kinda feel awkward about cutting the bloodstripes off the pants to reuse them. But, even though they are only $14.95 + shipping, it's money saved.

Kev, I can't remember the reasoning behind putting the Screaming Eagles patch on the left forearm instead of the right shoulder. I know there was a reason, and even though I went through the entire 37 pages of this thread  I missed it.

Yeah baby! Been wanting to do this outfit for a lonnnnggg time!

It was because you can't fit both the Screaming Eagle and your rank on the same arm. Especially members with larger rank patches such as myself.

We debated and decided that just one rank on say the left arm did not look right. So the conclusion was to keep the rank on both the left and right arms, and move the Eagle to the left forearm.

And it's good to hear you are moving forward with the Blues! 8)

Ah-HA!! I knew you'd know!!
Yes, that does make sense, it would most assuredly get in the way of pretty much ANY rank patches! Damn, and can't really go with NO rank patches either. We do need to keep a sense of continuity.

That said, there still will be a smattering of differences on our unis, as I'll have the Cerebrus, not the Sulaco on my uni. I've never bothered much with ranks thus far, but this old fart, being the oldest Marine, I sure as hell ain't going to be a pvt!

btw, I have a present for you, Derek,Dom and Sean. I'm making something that will go on Dress Blues and Service C uni's. I talked with Derek about it already, and he thought it was pretty darn cool as well.

Feel free to PM me to find out what it is, otherwise I'll just have to surprise you at DCon!

8) 8)

Is the suspense building yet??

  :delta: :delta: :delta:

OH, and not to stir the pot... much... but did we ever really confirm that there will be a Dress Blue B uniform, with beret and Sam Browne? This was discussed but never really confirmed.

EDIT: Nevermind... Kev gave the go-ahead on pg 35... so I'd just like to make sure it's "official".

Yes! I haven't forgotten our other project!! We still need to do that one as well!

The Beret and Sam Browne, another good idea! Hmmm, it certainly would save me from buying the parade belt...hmmm

I need to get more, I forgot Lunisar has a Class C! :o

Well I just skimmed 37 pages of epic :D

Just a quick aside, maybe SSGT Burton's finalization post should be ammended to the beginning as well as any future changes just so newcomers don't have to dig.

I like the brainstorming and I like the final result. If my 2nd Dress Blue Blouse ever fits me again I may have an idea of what do with it (Unless someone's interested in a 40L blouse thats been tailored to be let out). I think I may attempt this in time. It seems like a cool idea, we could run a full on color guard (which by the way I was involved with one a month ago, Marine Color Guards hole the colors with only one hand, the right, two hands is for high winds apparently) which would be sweet, sadly I doubt I'll ever be in the Atlanta area. SDCC is about the only thing I stand a decent chance of making.

I totally understand the "oh noes it could be confused for reals." The general public is a bit flaky when it comes to things like these. As a WW2 reenactor I can wear any uniform in my repetoire and most people when they ask us questions about what we are, they immediately ask if we are in the service. I think in my particular unit I'm the only one that qualifies other than a retired USAF Master Sergeant. When we do public shows where our German reenactors are at, they've been floored when people ask if they are in the service, based on their uniforms... A big "lol wut?" moment indeed, they didn't know what to say, other than to politely correct them. Thankfully its for Con use only, as a Marine, I think its changed enough that I approve. In the reenactment world I approve of:

Image
Image

I PM'd the guy (on a mainly Vietnam Marine Historical Group site) and said, "Hey! I'm in right now and doncha think its a bit early for that?" Well as I came to find out, the dude is Finnish, and he and other reenactors absolutely LOVE the US Marine Corps. And they've collected about everything else Marine that they can get their hands on so they only had one way to go... Honestly if it weren't Finland in the background, they look dang good (how they got the gear I dunno, cuz I know a lot of Marines who have lost their CIF stuff that would like to get replacement stuff instead of sending a missing gear statement up the chain). BTW for those wondering they picked Fallujah '04, Operation Phantom Fury as their impression, judging from the pictures and videos I've seen, their gear looks correct, even down to the chunks of camo netting on the helmets (which I think is a sweet look that I may want to give a try on my USCM stuff when I get it done)

Sorry I ramble a lot but was trying to hammer a point a bit by throwing in my support. But I like what I see. Our blouse on black trousers was a nice choice.

Once again congrats, can't wait to see a bunch of you lookin' sharp like that. Did you guys bring this stuff out this D*C at all?

We didn't have any Dress Blues this year, next year we hope to have 3-4 though! Should be a blast!

Thanks man- glad you liked it. It was definitely the most debated and thought out projects I've ever endeavoured. Well worth it in the end.

Good point- I'll amend that tonight.

For the most part I received very positive reactions from both the public and real Marines when I wore this at D-Con last year. However there were two instances that felt "wrong".

First one happened in front of the Hard Rock Cafe while waiting to go inside- Derek and I were in our Service C uniforms (yeah- I wasn't even wearing my Dress Blues): a homeless person came up to me, looked me square in the eye with a gentle smile, and said "Welcome home". He didn't even ask for any change or anything. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I wasn't in the service- the whole thing was very awkward. I just nodded and smiled back.

The second one happened while I was in my Dress Blues- while crossing the street between the Hyatt and Marriott, a woman (in costume as well) looked at me and said "Thank you."

That made me feel like an imposter. :(

Otherwise it felt absolutely amazing leading the parade in these!

Part of me is kinda glad I left these at home considering the trouble I had at the border- it just may have exasperated matters. One guard was pissed that I had an American flag on my M1969 vest calling it "disrespectful".

But I think if at least one more Colonial Marine here has a Dress Blues impression for next year, you can count on me bringing mine!

Kevin
