The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Yeah, it sucks when a toy breaks right out of the package.

I took Reapers advice and pinned the joint using a tiny screw so that it would retain movement in all directions. Seems to be working.

Mine was the exploding head alien from the Hicks 2-pack so I chose a pose I liked and glued it in place. He was never going to get a lot of play anyhow...

Glad it's working mate. I've had to repair a few figures in my time (mainly McFarlane, hence my hatred of the company!) :)

I too know all to well McFarlane's propensity to make toys that break/require repair...I used to collect their stuff heavily!

Same here. I had less problems with his SPAWN stuff, but damn did the Movie Maniacs break like they were eggshell material.
Compared to that, the odd NECA joint breaking (or sticky residue) still is real improvement compared to what Todd McF threw on the market back in the day.

Don't get me wrong, McFarlane made some great figures but the poses or lack there of and quality control were (may still be) awful.

I still have my Manga Spawn and Mandarin Spawn figures, they are just about all I have left and that's because I like them the most!

Oh, wait, I also still have my Predator and Alien warrior figures, those are still pretty cool.

Not too bad, actually. left is McFarlane, right is Neca.

Proportions and overall appearance are clearly better on the NECA one, but paintwise and scalewise they go together quite well. Not bad to fill the ranks of your Xeno army!

He actually poses in his office, gets the sculptors to take pictures of him and base the figures off those poses. Screw any hope of the customer wanting any other pose!

I'm also pretty sure I remember him saying the random and useless joints had to be added to make it an 'action figure' legally and not a statue.
(This is all from an interview/behind the scenes at the Spawn Offices)

What I disliked about the xenos is that one foot posed resting on the ball of the toe. I wish he would have just posed it sitting flat like the other.

You're welcome, mate!
The tippy-toe pose makes standing the McF guy up super tricky, but I just use the tail as additional support. Think "third leg", huh huh, nudge nudge, wink wink.

Looks like a new Requiem head thrown in the mix there (unless another critter had that overly muscular neck look).

Well, "yes" and "no".

The NECA big boss man has said repeatedly that 'human figures' don't sell as well as creatures and he is hesitant to embrace them. Is that true? I don't think it is but who knows. What is indisputably true is their profit margins for human figures are lower. Any figures featuring a human actor's face costs NECA a heck of a lot more to make because they have to pay for that actor's likeness. I think if we keep pushing and demanding it, they will eventually have to embrace more human characters, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for it happening anytime soon. They will milk the creatures and variants of the actors they already paid for as long as they can.

That said I will def be getting the 1/4scale Aliens Warrior. I think it looks great. Not sure about the new version of the Alien creature. I did miss out on the first release so maybe.

I'm wondering what they can do different on the large Big Chap this time. I mean, when they came out with the first version a few years ago, I remember the artist who was sculpting it was trying to get it as realistic and accurate as possible. So what are they doing different now?

Don't get me wrong, the first version was great, and this new version looks great.

I have to admit I am not an expert on all the subtleties of the first Alien, but the way people absolutely lose their minds over on the SSF forum I have gathered the new one has more points of articulation (not unlike the 7" figure v2.0) and a more accurate dome & mouth.

That said, already the complaining is going strong over on SSF about what is still 'wrong' with it. The stunt head fans (closed mouth) argue with the robot head fans (w/open mouth and working inner jaw) who fight with the original Geiger statue fans and around they go until no one is happy with the NECA sculpt!
