The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That's just wrong! You'd think they'd have a white dress version.

Sorry, I meant a white campaign cover. White uniforms should only be worn by the US Navy. ;)

Gotcha. Totally agree about the US Navy uniform.

But I think a white campaign hat would look really bizarro!

Ya got that right, Mole! Cudos to you.

You're right, SSgt Burton, a white D.I. cover would look pretty weird. I guess that sticking with the green one was the lesser of two evils.

WTF!!!

I did that exact same thing when I saw the pic! Are you stalking me, Mole?!?!

I would have posted it but I'm at work and I can't. I'll put mine up tomorrow.

And I thought I was the only one to have fun with Paint.

At any rate, well done. It really doesn't look that bad...

At least it works this way:

I don't think bmp files are supported, just gif, png and jpg.

Similar to browser image 'rules', IIRC.

I am bumping this.

I'd really... really... like to get something hashed out here and settled on before D*Con. We're down to the wire.

It's decision time, yes?

Last bump before D-Con...

As I see it I will be the only one in Dress Blues this year... Makes me feel a bit like a loner. :( :?

I plan on wearing this for the Parade only.

Here is my checklist for my "A" style uniform:

White dress cap with Challenge Coin device
USMC tunic
Black pants with red piping (Unless I find something quickly, I'm wearing my Star Trek pants as I've pretty much run out of time)
Oxford style dress shoes
White parade belt
White parade gloves
White flag carrier

Derek (Devildog)- if you are going to come up with a "B" style uniform, go with what has been discussed so far:

Black Beret (or red whatever you prefer)
USMC tunic with badges/rank as per my tunic
Black garrison or Sam Browne belt
Black pants with red piping
Oxford style dress shoes

One thing I'm considering... I bought a standard USMC plastic nametag that I was going to wear on my Service C- but instead went with SA nametapes on that uniform. So I'm thinking of wearing the nametag on my Dress Blues as it will take it another small step away from USMC Blues? (And yes I want to wear the tag that I paid for so it doesn't go to waste. )

With less than a month to go I don't see how I can really put this together at this point in time; so perhaps for 2009...

Sucks, because I wanted to do this but we've sort of let the thread die.

I'll offer up my Dress Blues to whoever wants to use them.

I don't want any of my insignias ripped off, or new ones sewn on, but I'm sure someone could figure out a way to non-permanently attach something.

I have: (with CORRECT USMC terminolgy, SSgt. Burton, kidding! :) )

White dress cover (yes its called a freaking cover, a 'hat' to you civilian pukes)
Dress Blues blouse (yes its called a freaking blouse, a 'shirt' or 'top' to you civilian pukes)
Blue trousers (yes they're called freaking trousers) with red NCO stripe; BTW they are supposed to be blue, not black.
Black dress shoes
White belt for the blouse
White gloves
White frog (yes its called a freaking frog) The 'frog' is the piece of leather that holds the scabbard to your belt.
NCO sword and scabbard

The trousers are a size 32L (sheesh was I ever really that slim?!?!) and I'm not sure about the blouse size. I am 5'11'' with an average/muscular build so it should be ok for most. My shoes are a size 9. I think you'd want to supply your own black socks...

I'd even show someone how to march and salute properly with the sword. Be good to get back in D.I. mode...

Sorry about all the anal terminology; I'm not nitpicking, just trying to be accurate.

Yep... and I see to many websites and eBay sellers listing it as a "throg".

Many thanks Dave. I purchased a frog, but never got around to getting an NCO sword. If you bring yours I would greatly appreciate wearing it.

What I really could use are some pointers on the proper way to carry a flag while marching... proper hand position etc. I bought a single sling flag carrier for our USCM banner in the parade this year.

EDIT

P.S. what's the terminology for a tie and a belt?

Sure, I'll be sure to bring my sword and scabbard. However, FYI it has been sharpened. (It's me, what did you expect?!?) I'm sure you'll be careful.

I was never a flag carrier guy, so I can't say for sure about that. What I do know is that when they have that flag holder thing that goes on the middle of your belly, they didn't move much. They had like two positions, one used when marching and the other for standing still. When walking you hold the flag straight up, you also hold it up when standing at attention. When standing 'at ease' you hold the flag forward at arm's length at an angle. Also, moving or not, you briefly lower the flag to salute the U.S. flag. I think your hands are always one right on top of the other, left over right, and always closed. Your fingers are always together, too, so there is no 'daylight' in between them.

A tie and a belt is just a tie and a belt!

Kev, if you need pointers, I'll help; I have experience with Honor/Color Guard... not to mention the good ol' Marine Corps.

For the record, I do not recommend wearing an NCO sword while marching in the parade with a flag. Trust me.

Hand position, btw, is right over left.

I did say 'I think it goes left over right', but thanks for the correction. And here I thought everything was left over right!

Yeah, marching with a sword AND a flag sounds pretty awkward. Do you still want it, SSgt?

Thanks for the advice guys. :)

Dave- on Derek's advice I won't wear the sword during the parade itself... I considered wearing it after the parade for the time I keep the Dress uniform on---

It's just that you will most likely have give it to me before the parade or maybe on Friday. I'll keep it safe until it is time to return it to you. I'm pretty anal (actually very anal) about my own stuff so you can rest assured that I will be doubly anal/careful about a friend's property.

Of course if I come up with the scratch I might still purchase my own sword- but I'll let you know before D-Con.

Um... I really don't want you getting anal on my sword... OH!, you meant... nevermind. :P

Well I'm arriving Thursday afternoon, so let me know when/how I could get it to you. I stopped at Atlanta Cutlery a couple of years ago and they do have them there if you want your own.

I'll be there Thursday afternoon as well. :)

Those Atlanta Cutlery swords certainly are nice... but too pricey for my needs right now. :(

If I do grab one it will be off ebay- might even get lucky in the dealers' room.
