The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The part is similar to the handwelder switch, which seems to be of more interest to the guys on the RPF thread.

I hope I didn't contribute to that on the RPF, but I can tell you I'm certainly interested in both props and their parts. :)

My scratch built ear details look pretty pale in comparison to yours with the source parts.

I may scratchbuild the trigon part. Those kits are running $60-70 on Ebay.

I was just looking at some pics of the helmets again and was wondering about this one

Image

I can't decide if they actually cut a complete circle out of the side of the helmet., The part with the "piping" coming down looks almost to be part of the original helmet. Also the circle doesnt look like it would meet up if it continued round if you know what I mean but this could just be the angle. It would also of course explain why this piece does not appear to have moved at all like the rest of the plate the greeblies are on.

I also can't see how the piping was put on. It looks like it is sunken into the helmet in a channel but I wouldn't have thought the helmet was thick enough to be able to cut a channel into it.

Any progress pics btw Birdie. Did you get any of the toy models
before Xmas to see if they are the correct version/scale at all?

Cheers

Darren

Gonna take a wild stab in the dark with this.

I think the two strips with the 'piping' coming down the helmet were cut out of the helmet along with the circular part with the main part in it.

Now hunch no 2. I'm thinking that maybe the piping and big circular greeble was all attached by one backing piece to the helmet. Either the glue or whatever holding the main part of it has given out at the bottom,or it took a whack at the bottom of it. And that put stress on the area at the bottom of the piping and snapped it.

Just looks like a clean break there across the bottom of the piping, which makes me think that whatever's behind that piping was a backing plate for the build up and its broken at that point at the bottom of the pipes.

Could be utter ballhooks but there ya go

:xeno:

It wasn't a complete circle.

The Spunk. Helmet is missing one of the cables

at the rear.

I can post some picts of my helmet this weekend.

Cheers Matt, that would be great. I see what you mean about the cable (piping) on the Spunkmeyer helmet. This photo actually gives a better view point and you can see that it wasnt a complete circle like you say.

Image

Although in this photo you can see that the circle would meet up if continued all the way round.

Cheers

Darren

Excellent pics thanks. Can I ask where you got them from at all.

Welcome to the boards.

I notice in the first pic that there is a piece that is missing from the Ferro Helmet pics posted earlier in the thread. I always thought it looked like a piece was missing. The pic is a close up of the Spunkmeyer helmet though yeah? as you can see the missing piece of piping at the top again.

Thanks

Darren

Holy...

Many thanks for those!

Anymore possibly?

It looks like various parts are broken from each one.

Would you say the ear cup details were meant to be the same

on both helmets?

I would say they are yeah. On the Ferro pics where the piece is missing you can see that it is not all painted so it seems fairlyu certain that the piece has come off. Like I said I though it seemed odd to me that they would leave that part sort of "open" looking. Now we know. Thanks again mate. Like Matt said though, any more? :)

Cheers

Darren

These look like audio parts - a 1/4' jack in and some sort of level pot - very reminiscent of the knobs on the Panasonic Ranger TV used for the motion tracker in Alien.

Image

Looks like a 'branch' from a model kit.

If it's a jack it'll be an 1/8th inch; the knob could be anything though.
