The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Kevin, the curved "Colonial Marines" one, oh crap, wished it curved the other way, come to think of it, with the curve being on the "bottom half" of a circle, it wouldn't look good on the jacket sleeve at all. Dammit. Now, if it was on a curve on the "top side" of a circle (does all that make sense??) , then it would look good.

Okay, I'll just go on the sideline now...

Oh I get it now. Yeah- it would have been awesome if it was curved topside instead of bottom.

It's referred to as the "rocker" patch.

How about a red tunic, with black pants with a red stripe (the bloodstripe itself is not necessarily a Marine thing- maybe with blue pants though  ).

And instead of a service cap, how about a campaign hat (you know- D.I. hat, or Smokey the Bear hat ).

So this would be the end result:

How's that Dom?

Anyone else remember that early 90s show with the Mountie in America working with a cop?

So you are considerring paying several hundred dollars for a uniform, but you won't kick in another 10 or so for a custom rocker?

I watch Due South every weekday lunchtime. Right after The Rockford Files. :D

I see no reason not to create a USMC "mudguard" to wear on the jacket.

No matter what the uniform design will be, it's going to be impossible not to offend or upset somebody.
There will always be someone who takes offence.
Even if it is an unjustified reaction.

And no offence to Dom's gorgeous flag, if we are going all out, can we redesign the EGA? To me that is the second most well known US Marine emblem (after Dress Blues), heck, it is probably more well known in all honesty.

I know replying to this quote is looooong overdue, however I just noticed this tonight:

The USMC EGA symbol was used in "Aliens". And it's completely unchanged. No futuristic take on it. It's the classic Eagle Globe Anchor.

It's on Drake's "I've Served My Time In Hell" shirt!

http://www.harryharris.com/tee.htm

I was actually interested in trying to have the shirt itself reproduced.

Of course, I really like this look

But I still think the USCM patch should be on the right arm

This thread is excellent! I'm partial to SSgt's submission for a dress uniform. It retains enough of a nod to a Marine Corps dress uniform, yet the colors absolutely set it apart. I'm partial to that cover as well... the idea of a beret doesn't sit well with me at all.

White gloves would look sharp. Perhaps a white belt, also, instead of black.

I also agree that the USCM patch should be on the shoulder.

I -loved- the idea of ribbons for conventions...

What about some sort of Fourragère, or Aiguillette?

Has anyone considered modifying existing shooting badges... or even brand new designs?

I'll stop rambling now... I just really like how this uniform could look.

Maybe for DIs, senior NCOs and Officers?

You mean like the USMC Rifle Expert badge? Personally I would go with a totally new design rather than modifying the current design.

I started toying with the idea yesterday after you mentioned it. However the design doesn't quite look right using crossed M41As; they are a bit too chunky. Maybe go with an elongated Scope Rifle?

I really like the idea of ribbons for Combat Drops (conventions).

And I still have my white lanyard from my Air Cadet uniform, (although if we do decide to wear something like that it should be standardized). I'm a bit embarrassed that I had to double check if a SSgt was a senior NCO.

Back in my AC days- anything above corporal was a senior NCO.

So, shall we declare that we have a winning design and go from there?

We then need:

The Black Jacket- Source?

The Red Pants w/ Black stripe- Source?

The Service Cap- Source?

Custom USCM patch- Source?

Delta Collar tab pins- Source?

Delta Hat Badge/Patch- Regular one or a custom?

White Belt- A web belt w/ brass grommets or a regular webbing pants belt?

I kinda like the idea of white web belt w/ grommets myself...

Love the idea of custom badges, etc. And the Combat Drops is a must.

Don't suppose there is any support for pants bloused over boots?
I remember my Ranger cousin's dress greens were like this?

Perhaps for those non Officer / NCO's?

Just a thought...

I'm still kinda iffy on the red trousers - think it sounds kinda gaudy - but I'll go with what the group decides.

Perhaps a darker red, like a crimson?

Keep in mind there are badges for Marksman, Sharpshooter (which is the only badge with the EGA on it) and Expert. I figured it'd be personal preference for each Marine to determine which badge they'd like to wear. Not everyone qualifies Expert, and that's okay. :)

Also, there are all 3 badges for pistol qualification, as well. So it's not uncommon to see someone with Rifle Sharpshooter/Pistol Expert, or both expert, or both Marksman, for instance.

In addition there are additions for each time you qualify at a certain level. For instance, if you've shot Rifle Expert 2 times, there will be a bar added to your badge which states "2nd Award".

Go here as well to peruse: http://www.grunt.com/

For all accessories (cover, belt, gloves) http://www.usmcblues.com/blues.html

What about these chevrons for the dress uniform? http://www.usmcblues.com/redgold.html

I'm sure I could post more but I need to run out at the moment...

Dom, I checked out the link you showed me but I didn't see anything about shooting badges. Did I miss it?

I'll check back later. I hope some of this helps.

I agree. I meant to mention this last night but I forgot. Bright red would look too bad. A darker crimson would be perfect.

Can anyone darken that red and add the white belt to the image for an updated visualization?

That's because your military has it's roots in the same place as mine and we keep things nice and simple. ;)

Not like those Americans with a million different ranks :P
As a Sergeant I'm an SNCO over here and there are only two ranks left to go. Couldn't be easier.

Interesting... thanks to Wikkipedia I now know that it's a NATO OR-6 Rank (E-6) equivalent to SSgt in the USMC.

Sorry I mistook the British parlage for "badge" meaning "patch" in N American English. Me fail English? That unpossible!
