The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Dark is good!!

Having done a few CQB exercises at night, with night vision purposely destroyed by sudden light, muzzle flashes etc and taking a good 5 minutes to reeadjust back, you really can see a grand total of F**K ALL.

Sounds pretty realistic to me... I'm gonna try out the demo version this Thursday, hopefully!!

Unless you can get it cheap, I'd say no - just get the standard version. The facehugger is cute and nicely posable but I'd say it's less than half-scale. Interestingly, the huggers in the game are also quite small.

They are aren't they. More hand-sized than face sized really.

While I enjoy the suspense of the darkness I do miss the Infra Red marine view of the previous Aliens vs Predator.

If you can make payments or get it cheap yea its a neat collectable to have, but its not that over the top.

The rubber face hugger is deffinatly under 1/2 size, not sure about the ones in the game though I was shooting them not measuring them

The demo may actually put you off the game, being standard boring deathmatch, with no tutorial for the controls. :?

Played the Alien single player on PC tonight, as I didn;t want to overwrite the Marine saves on the 360.

As G says, the beginning 'tutorial' for the Xeno is great, especially when you free your Hive brothers.

Oh nuts... I didn't realise that switching campaigns would mess up my saves!!! No wonder I couldn't continue my marine mission after I got tempted to try the xeno level. Oh well, you live and learn.

Have to say my favourite element of the marine campaign is that dull thudding sound you sometimes hear off in the distance. "They're at the pressure doors". That sound sent a shiver down my spine the first time I watched the Aliens SE, and creeped me out playing the game too. Sweet.

It rewrites the auto save, so you could do a 'proper' save as the Marine after a checkpoint, then playing the Xeno and only using the auto save and maybe one of the four possible proper saves.

I have the four saves at certain points in the Marine campaign to show to people when they visit, hence the playing on the PC as the Alien. :)

I jumped on the marine campaign last night on 'normal'......damn those bugs are a pain to get.

TV was on, lights were on but they still got the jump on me a few times.
Playing at night alone in the house is going to be FUN!!!

I died about 4 times in 'the club'.....on NORMAL!!!
I think at the Colony Sweep in Atlanta this year I'll be the first one to go....just call me Dietrich!!!

my friends step dad came in when we were playing and i about jumped 2 feet out of my chair

try block, melee, and shoot when a xenos is attacking from the front. when they are stunned on the ground they are a lot easier to kill.

The game was a major letdown for me (bought the Xbox version).

The singleplayer is too short and lacks a good narrative.
Graphics are average at best and quite poor in places.
Enemy AI is poor.
The multiplayer maps are shockingly bad . . . I hate the broad daylight jungle/ruined temple themes throughout. There should have been more dark interior maps in the spirit of Alien/Aliens.
Multiplayer can be a laugh sometimes but the lag and host quiting just drains the fun out of it.

On the plus side, the sound is pretty good and the singleplayer has one or two decent moments/set pieces. Survivor is fun too but very linear and gets old quick.

In y opinion it was a lacklustre effort by Rebellion. The game feels stale, rushed and unpolished. This suprised me concidering the team explained how they had been thinking about abother AvP title since finishing the original and had worked on this for 2 years. I just hope Colonial Marines will get be released at some point.

Finished the Alien missions (note to self, remember the 'block' function) and started on the Marine. Its good but the guns & armour's look etc. totally spoil it for me. Plus the shotty appears to be (at least) twice as effective against the bugs as the PR.

Yeah, been playing the marine missions first, cause obviously i wanted to get my hands on the pulsey. The feel of it's good, but the pulse rifle just doesnt feel... right.

The shotgun is highly effective, but my gripe so far, is that the aliens can be taken out by two shots from a pistol, or it can take 4 shells from a shotgun, largely depending on how the alien feels at that given moment!

I think that line might give some people flashbacks to the Alien Encounter show at NSC ... ;)

I'm guessing that some of these "It's so hard to kill 'X'!" comments are from plays on Normal-Hard difficulty, as on Easy I'm having little trouble taking out huggers with one or two pistol rounds and a short burst of PR at mid range takes out a Xeno.

Found a different kind of bug on the Ruins (Dropship) area; falling through the game world.

Happened several times on the same bit; fighting off lots of Xenos on some steps. I'm either at the side or top of the steps, near a wall, I get hit by a Xeno and then am falling backwards, down and away from the level, which ends up a tiny square in the 'sky', then my weapon vanishes and I die.

Got to a bit where you have to kill a Predator now, but am finding it very difficult (he keeps disappearing to heal himself), so will try again over the weekend.

Just finished the Alien campaign, was rather disappointed that it was so short. BUT it was all made up for the amount of havests and grab kills on the poor marines so I didnt mind at all. Alien animations great in my opinoin, I like how you can see your claws when looking down and how you turn in a circle can see your tail and legs :) , and btw, Number 6 is so adorable! Just wanna give her a hug!! :D

The flamers use is basically limited to taking out eggs.

When i posted that though, i was trying to bag them with the pistol to save shotty ammo. The PR basically chews up facehuggers. I've been playing with the scoped rifle, and on hard it's taking out the xeno's 95% of the time with one bullet.

Just got home from vacation and started to play AVP on my PC. So far I'm pretty disappointed. The controls (especially the alien's) are extremely clunky and not very well refined and thought out. Rebellion really dropped the ball. I'm not sure if I wanna keep playing it or go play Fallout 3 which I have an itch to play again after seeing the book of Eli. I'd say it was a waste of my money except that I hope the sales are strong enough to continue Sega's support of Aliens: Colonial Marines which is what I think most of us have been dieing to play. It's like extortion.
