The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ok few more updates.

The brass inserts arrived today so I got those installed. Seem to hold everything in place securely :)
Image

Front block arrived also so gave it a test fit. Still waiting on the correct screws so its just a "dry" fit for now.

And I gave the shrouds a test fit. Everything seems to slot in and fit together very well :)

Thanks Steve! Wouldn't have even started this build if it wasn't for you selling off your parts :)

Don't be envious just yet. Still plenty of chances for me to cock it up.

Once it's complete I'll want to try it out. :D

Then I'll offer to swap it for my G&P and HCG.

It looks great!
Are these Matsuo shrouds?
Oh, and I couldn't help but notice a pet peeve of mine: Why did you use the ten-hole ("hero") front block on a Pulse Rifle with the 8-hole barrel vent?

Cheers!

Thanks :) Yup these are Matsuo shrouds (an older generation I believe). And as for the front block ill be honest and admit I didn't know there was a difference. Which one should I use for an "8 holer" ?

Probably easier and cheaper to get a ten hole vent. :)

Hey there!
Actually, there is the propstore Pulse Rifle, which is an 8-hole PR with the "hero" front block, see here:
http://www.propstore.com/pulserifle.htm
It has been speculated that the grenade launcher section has been transplanted onto the propstore PR from the original ten-hole hero PR after filming.

However, during filming, I believe only the 10-hole hero had that front block with the three circles and all the others had this version:
http://www.alienscollection.com/alienwarprbarrel.jpg

But you could just make yours a replica of the propstore PR then. :)

Cheers!
Roman

P.S.: Steve (SD Studios) still makes the "standard" front block for the 8-hole PRs. I actually think it is both harder and more expensive to get a 10-hole barrel vent than it is to get an 8-hole front block.

Ok thanks for the info! Learn something everyday :D

Im really not a fan of the 10 hole vent so will be on the lookout for a new GL block me thinks.

Thanks fellas! Its amazing how much Ive found out I don't know about PR's even after all this time thinking I knew it all :)

Ok I'm getting dangerously close to starting to have to paint this thing up. Just wanted to know whats the best way to colour the metal parts? is there a black spray thats best to use or is there another method? I saw Tom use Perma Blue on his site, Should I use that?

If you dont have an airbrush, get one. Spray cans are fine for certain things but you cannot beat the quality and control you get from an airbrush.

Noted! So should I use acrylic paints in the airbrush?

Also whats the best way to attach the stock? I dont mind if it can't be adjusted but if I could that would be a bonus.

Rook's tutorial on the stock might be of help:

Too much snow to go outside so today I did some painting. Used high quality black acrylic on the barrel and vent to see how it looked. really happy with the result! Then threw it in a bag of screws and shook it about to add some chips and dings...

Image

And I've decided to go Brown Bess for the shrouds (sorry Dom). Used the spray can BB that was offered a little while back. Then I threw on a layer of varnish that I buffed up with wet 2000 sandpaper to add to the realism.....

Image

And here is a parting shot of everything so far. I'm really happy with how its looking :)
