The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

1) Dark / Navy blue Ike jacket with Mandarin collar. Enlisted / Nco's
would have red piping. Officer's no piping.

2) White pant's with 3/4'' red stripes for NCO's. 1" stripes for
Officer's.

3) Black patent leather belt with Glod buckle. The normal tan web
belt for the pant's.

4) Dark / Navy Blue beret with patch or Drop ship wing's.

5) Black patent leather shoe's.

Referring to CW Mock's image, I think that would be far too easy to confuse with real USMC Dress Alphas.

As it's been pointed out already, Gorman's service uniform very closely resembled USMC Charlies, but with a slightly different color scheme and a couple other differences. Personally I really like the idea of a high-collar coat, with slacks of a different color and stripes/piping. Similar enough to the original to "tip the hat," while respectfully different enough - and also very sharp-looking!

I really like both CW Mock and Wookie Gunner's ideas-

The ranking insignias, etc.

instead of the blue pants w/ red stripes, which look awesome w/ the outfit, but I think are too easily confused w/ USMC, if we had the same jacket, but w/ dark green pants / black stripes.

Not sure about the beret color, but I really like how sharp the delta looks on it!

'Course, I'm still holding out for my idea of the Screaming Eagles patch! :)

Ok I'm liking the direction that CW image has started.

Not too keen on a beret though- I'm partial to retaining a service cap myself (besides I don't want to be confused with the Royal Manticore Navy  ). At the least as Dom suggested it should be a beret colour that easily obtainable.

I don't see how the image CW posted could be confused with dress blues considering there is no blue in the uniform at all anymore (something distictive to dress blues). However just to set it really apart- how about red (or better maroon) pants with a black stripe? Might look really sharp:

Image

I just had to see how it would look with a service cap.

You may not know this, but the real USMC tested a beret for our uniforms. We hated it. I don't think it lasted for the entire test period. The US Army & Air Force do have berets.

I like the service cap better myself. I was going to do one with that when I got the chance, and now I KNOW it will look better. I still think the navy blue pants are a little more pleasing to the eye. A service cap also seems to fit the universe better

The red ones would look good in a darker shade maybe. Bright red reminds me of Zouaves. I can make one up later if I get back on the right PC.

Wow... so here's my concept...

Black pants, with a yellow stripe. That would work.

The Ike jacket with the mandarin collar is nice... but how about a nice burgundy jacket, with an overflap that can be folded down. Then we can have a padded collar turtleneck under that. Certain colors, like say white denotes rank or position. Then you have insignia on the left breast, and service pins on the left sleeve. No patches. Oh, and the belt goes over and through the jacket.

Wonder what it would look like then...

I agree no red stripe. The blood stripe is definitely a US Marine thing. Honestly I think both the beret and cap look good, but the cap is in the movies and the beret isn't, so my vote would be cap.

So have we decided between the long coat and the Ike jacket?

CW, would you mind doing a mocup with black long coat, service charlie (green) pants and a matching green cap? Basically Gorman's outfit with a black longcoat?

Just for note; a retired 1st Sgt I work with said that one of the
women on Dancing with the Stars wore a Marine Dress blue jacket
with nothing on it, just plain and the producers of the show got blasted By the Corps about it. My point; CW's image shows said Dress Blue jacket. We might not want to go there. That's why I suggested an Ike jacket or anything else that can't be mistaken
as USMC Dress Blues.

Ok I watch "So You Think You Can Dance" and saw the episode in which one of the judges was wearing a Marine dress blues jacket.

They made a public apology on the next episode because:

1- She basically was wearing this as casual wear, with it unbuttoned like any old jacket.

2- (the biggie) She was wearing corporal stripes, on the forearm, and upside-down!

When my wife and I were watching the apology and they showed a re-run of the judge in the jacket- even I realized what a mistake that was!

I really don't see how this:

Image

Will be confused with this:

Image

By Marines.

Sure the untrained eye might think that, but surely not Marines?

The Marine Corps has always used a longcoat as opposed to an Ike jacket. This is supposed to be a "tip of the hat" while at the same time, not dress blues. I prefer a long coat with a high collar- black, with minimal red piping across the collar and epaulettes.

Just to stay with what has been seen in the movie (and continue the need for it to be distiguishable from real dress blues), perhaps any NCO rank should be army rank and not Marine dress rank?

The main reason I suggested an Ike jacket was, as no modern branch uses them so even the untrained eye should be able to tell the difference. As this is only my opinion, it doesn't matter. I just don't want anyone to get hasled by real Marines if it looked close. :D

Excellent choice!

I like your design Kevin... definitely something I would invest in. I like the high collar, reminds me a bit of my regiment's cavalry dress uniform... known as "dress blues" as well.

I agree with Kevin on the coat style issue... the Ike jacket doesn't look anything like what a Marine would wear, even a sci-fi one. Police and fire departments use long coats similar to the marine one as their dress uniform, as well, so it's not like the USMC has a patent on that particular jacket style or anything.

As I mentioned before, I'm all for a dress uniform that mimics the style of the USMC jacket (but with the Aliens mandarin collar ), trousers, and cover, just in a somewhat different color scheme - just like was already seen with other uniforms in the movie.

Okay, while I like the beret and Ike jacket too, I'll go w/ the majority on this...

I do like the color scheme as well.

I really like the idea of the Colonial Marines patch on the shoulder! That...would look awesome!!

That on one shoulder and the Screaming Eagle on the other really sets us apart as Sci-Fi Marines I think...

And, we all wear these when we go out to dinner!

I think that'd be an awesome idea... assuming everyone wants to cough up $400+ for this outfit ;)

The black jacket I drew has nothing to do with the USMC dress one.

First, its black, not blue.
The red piping only goes around the collar and epulates.
It's shorter - an intermediate length. It's longer than an Eisenhower, but shorter than a coat.

If you really want to get technical, its based more on the Rhode island State Police jacket than anything. My agency also has a similar dress jacket.

Anyhow, keep the ideas rolling!

I know we are not supposed to post eBay auctions, but this guy also does custom stuff, and could probably make anything you wanted. and as far as wool uniforms go he is pretty cheap.

some of the guys in my Luftwaffe unit have his stuff.

Since the ebay rule only applies to active auctions, here is a completed listing for the same item:

Ok I had a bit of a brainstorm. Just throwing it out there.

How about a red tunic, with black pants with a red stripe (the bloodstripe itself is not necessarily a Marine thing- maybe with blue pants though  ).

And instead of a service cap, how about a campaign hat (you know- D.I. hat, or Smokey the Bear hat ).

So this would be the end result:

Image

How's that Dom?

Yes... I'm kidding.

Rex- I'm a bit confused at what you mean by "Colonial Marines" patch- you mean the Sulaco patch? Or the Delta?

And as far as cost goes- no well made uniform/costume is cheap. If we go through with this I'd expect it to be from head to toe in the $500 range.

This would all be for next year anyway- so I've got the time to save. :D
