The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

My assumption was the med pod was for weyland and not vickers. As this was only discovered just prior to weyland's unveiling I think Scott was hinting at that

That's how I read it as well.

Personally I thought Vickers was a prototype Android!

But hey, that's how my wacky brain works!! :D

If not an android I'm guessing she must have been created by artificial insemination, given the vast difference in ages between Weyland and Vickers.

Maybe Weyland put the 'boy' gene into the mix and got a 'girl' instead, then made David as a compensation.

I would have gone for a pet cat myself!

How says she was not ? I personnaly think that she was indeed a sentient android and she was a better model than David. Her so-called father did not trust her because she was probably unstable (should I say twitchy - rings a bell ?) as a prototype could be.

Fanboy snobs??!!
What, so you have to dislike the Aliens films in order to like this one??!!
What utter crap... Then again, I'm not a fan of anything that places CGI and effects over characters, plot and storyline. If all someone can tell me about a film is "It's got amazing effects in it", then I won't be watching it - Transformers being a perfect example.

Prometheus itself is one seriously cool ship. Agree with it being advanced just enough to still fit in with the antiquated Nostromo, but clearly teh best of it's time.
Favourite shots are those where you see out the cockpit windscreen, with the controls in the foreground. Shots like this is where the 3D really adds to it!

However, the 3D was again utter crap.
If you're gonna shoot in 3D, you have to decide this from the outset and design all your shots accordingly. Everything must be in 3D, even the CGI and distant terrain shots. Also, everything has to be in focus.
Example: The scene where they switch focus from the Captain to the flashing red marker on the map - they use forced focus to make you look at it, but it results in blurred images right in front of your eyes. People's vision doesn't work like a 2D camera. When something is that close to you and moving you automatically look at it, so it needs to be in focus.

Fassbender - Great. Lots of menace and making you wonder whose side he's on. The resulting reveal is very cool and quite logical, actually. I like this character tremendously.

The rest of the characters... meh. Kinda flat and not someone I'd invest in much. Everyone is shoehorned in and, as mentioned, not really suited to such an important-sounding mission. I don't even get how they've not so much as met, let alone trained together before flying out there. Just made them all so disposable.
Noomi Rapace was wasted. I've seen the Millenium Trilogy (Girl with Dragon Tattoo, etc) and she has done far bettter. This was just trying to emulate Ripley a bit.

Charlize Theron... Very cool, very sexy and I did like her cold, detatched professionalism that actually prompted the Captain's question (and all the insinuation behind it). The whole flight crew sounded really interesting too, yet did almost nothing throughout the film. Another set of wasted characters.

Yet, as a standalone film, I liked it. I will watch the next one(s), but I'm not overly impressed yet. Then again, I may just need someone to explain it all to me... Perhaps in a Harrison Ford voiceover?

2D was better viewing. Vibrant colurs, everything properly focused.

IMO Vickers was not an android...no point as she did nothing significant robot wise and got squished at the end. If she was a robot then a better story line detail would have been devised. She is just a bitch, with a terrible father, who wanted to take over Weyland and wanted the old bastard dead.

Its weird but both David and Vickers wanted the death of the parents!!! Is this something real people feel? I have heard it said that you cannot be who you will be until your parents die ( or something like that ) but do people think this way?

Personally I am with Shaw on this one. I lost my Dad 6 years ago and it still hurts.

Di9d David pick out the Earth from the 3D panorama, because it was not apparent that the Earth was the target for the Engineers visit ( unless I missed something ). David plucked the Earth and it remained after the machine turned off. Was David trying to detroy his makers...mankind...just a thought.

just saw it in 3d . you dont have to see it in 3d for one thing . movie left me with mixed feelings . first off the old ways of making films is dead . they have to show everything ! i cant stand it . for instance why show the engineers in the first scene . the very first sence . no surprise there . two much cgi . look what cameron did with rod puppets and guys in suits . any way , it was a decent movie just nothing i really wanted to see . whats the point of all this weird dna aliens making aliens stuff . i like the old comic book fiction and what Ridley originaly intended . space jockeys collect the xenos as a way of bio warfare and would drop them on planets to erraticate life . aliens got out and killed crew . good entertaining flick but the original 2 are master pieces . hard to replicate . after seeing robin hood i knew ridley has lost his touch . just like speilberg and lucas .

I liked the idea of the Space jockies using xenos like bio-bombs, from the comics. But they looked terrible, wheras the (helmeted) jockies look ace in this.

I wonder if a second watch with no expectations would help? I wanna see it again, just incase

I do wonder - why did the Engineer decapitate David like that? David speaks to him in his tongue - what did he say? Or was this analogous to an ant learning to speak and asking us a question?

Uhhh, Did we see the same movie? I just took my boys to the IMAX 3D.
It is the greatest movie I have ever seen. A true masterpiece.
I was mesmerized and captivated like no other movie.
I felt as if it was made just for me and I understand that a lot of people won't get it.
No argument. I am sorry you don't have the warm feeling I do right now.

Here's my other question: the "snake alien worm thingie" - did it get its form from the little worms seen in a few close-up shots?

Just saw it a second time . Didn't like it even more . Well filmed , well acted and great special effects . But bad plot . I hated the whole bait And switch . Ohhh look familiar alien build up you know what's going to happen . Look a possible pre face hugger , no no its just some mutant worm that does everything a face hugger does . They should have done the hole movie with a different universe . Or have done the same movie and changed out the oozing earns for some old fashioned eggs , face huggers and xenos . That would have made a better movie . Don't tell me it's not an alien prequal but feel the need to insert a chest bursting alien in the end that came from a giant oversize octopus face hugger which came from the uterous

Of a female infected by alien sperm from a guy that was infected by a drop of alien DNA in his vodka . Huh ! Oh by the way , black alien DNA makes you become a zombie and have acid blood huh . There's only two alien movies ...alien and aliens....that's it

Willie to answer your question . The worms were exposed to the alien DNA so they mutated into giant worm things that act like face huggers but aren't face huggers and now have acid blood . What the..yeah I know , makes no sense

I liked it. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. They certainly could have hired better writers and made a better plot. There were a few rather pointless portions like the two guys getting killed/infected and the infected guy killing a bunch of people. It was pretty much completely irrelevant to the entire plot.

I found it funny that they spent a trillion dollars on the project and I guess couldn't spend enough money to hire people that were smart enough and good enough shots to shoot people in the head (infected geologist and the engineer).

Ants can't wake you from hypersleep. I understand the analogy that people often make but it's pretty poor. A retarded person compared to your average human would be a better comparison.

as for me, i liked the movie. it was a good sci fi. the plot wasn't as elaborate as i hoped / interviews suggested, but i thought the overall story was good. i would have like more of a drawn out fight between shaw and the engineer. not, David "he's coming for you" SUDDENLY ENGINEER AND FIGHT OVER FROM SHAW'S BABY

*edit* i will concur with the consensuses of this thread and say the last scene was completely pointless and a very poor attempt to tie it as a prequel. The movie already established with the space cobra, that the same thing comes out as what implanted it. Thus shaw's baby should have implanted a same version of itself in the engineer.

I must be easy to please, I loved it. The beginning left me a little confused. So the space jocky (big spooky guy with human DNA) takes something ( a biological agent?) that stripped away their DNA. Then the decaying creature falls into the water supply. Can anyone tell me the significance of the openning schene?
