The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What a weekend! Had a great time meeting some online people, though due to having to keep an eye on my props I didn't get to meet half as many as id've liked!
Lows:
Prop lugging - man that stuff is heavy!
A small child picking up my Kryten mask and trying to put it on while the parents watched.
No armour (now remedied :) )
Highs:
Standing behind the display and watching people point stuff out saying ooh that's such and such and miming the actions to friends/relatives (terminator shotty twirling was my fave).
Holding Vera + almost every other of his guns and talking to Karl. BIG BIG thanks for you know what.
Deciding with Rev S and J Fraz what should be written on my new armour - ho ho.
Having AM sign my new marine helmet!
The AE run (and I mean RUN!) through.
Plus every minute of every hour I spent there!

I'd like to give a special mention to the Alien actors who were definite hero's for doing what they did - i've done similar costumed stuff and felt for ya!

Oh and when is the cook book coming out??

Cheers Stealthtrooper - Amongst all this back slapping, I’d also like to thank my fellow bugs Gareth, Jo and Andy for their sterling efforts. Bottom line is the four of us were SO DAMN EXCITEDAT BEING THE ALIENS IN THIS STUNNING SHOW that we all “doubled upâ€

I can only really second all that. Thanks to EVERYONE who was involved in the whole weekend. Esp. the people that Jez has mentioned. Thank you Malika! I saw only a fraction of her work and stress that went into this event. She did excellent job and the weekend was a real success.

However, I have to say again: Sci-Fi weekend 2007? AE2? The AE was super-successful and all the runs on the Sunday seemed to "work". Sunday was better than the Saturday because the Scientists, Marines, Xenos, and Techs started to get comfortable in their roles. Subtle changes made it scarier and kept it fresh. More than two Aliens per show also helped! ;)

I have to mention Giles and Rich again; They did as much waiting around in the dark as us Xenos, but instead of being hot, they were freezing cold. They had to operate the hastily rigged (and very un-user-friendly) effects over 50 times throughout the weekend and did every run more-or-less perfectly. They also played a big part in keeping us Xenos (and the Marines) sane and preventing us killing each other for real!

I had the time of my life and it was a dream fulfilled. Thanks for all the praise aimed at us Bugs, but we had the best job of all. Being an Alien isn't as masochistic as it appears: the fun and adrenaline factor more that out weigh the negative points! Aliens really do feed on people's fear!!

And the Aircon in Challenger was awesome, sorry to anyone who was cold: I was the one who set the temperatures!!

I've put up a (very brief) video clip from the weekend here.

It's my first go at YouTube so I hope it works. The video is widescreen but it appears that YouTube forces it into a 4:3 ratio; however if you press the first button next to 'size:' it goes into proper widescreen.

Just wanted to showcase some of the UK marine force. ;)

Who's doing the introduction? Why, it's none other than TV's Harry Harris of course!

Firstly on behalf of the rest of the staff and the members of the UKG i'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone involved in this event, we have been privelaged to attend and operate some major events in the past and this whole weekend falls into that catagory, it could not have been done without everyone of you, from stagehands to out front marines you all rocked, four different groups working as one..... top draw people :D

Now onto the event itself..
Having been involved in the planning for this event it has to be said that come 9am saturday morning the realisation of what was about to happen can make or break people, EVERYONE stepped upto to the start line ready for the marathon ahead and it was plain to see from my experiance with events that there was only one outcome... we were onto a winner!!! having a pre walk round everything on display in the main room and seeing all the props on show it does take your breath away as to how many people had made their collections available... Thankyou all

The changing area was superb (thanks as usual Malika) so many groups, so many people getting ready and so many helping each other where required... ONE GROUP, ONE GOAL!!

Seeing so many marines together really is a sight for anyone, so seeing those on door checks, posing for pictures and even getting people doing star jumps in the car park really added to the weekend, well done marines.... oh and before I forget, I understand that a few of you guys got nabbed to man the UKG photostand for a while and pose with the public due to demand for marines, top job fella's your help contributed to raising around £700 total on that part alone for our charities.

Now for the AE........ quite simply Bloody WOW!!! hard work paying off is so great at times, everyone really did pull off something amazing, we had people crying, people freezing on the spot, some guy turning and running into a wall  women clinging onto my arm for dear life with me saying don't worry i'll protect you, only for me to die halfway thru  After one show I even walked out the front to hand back my trophy of someones shoe. To die at the hands of aliens in the dark is kinda freaky but you guys n gal did it so well that i'll happily step up and do it again, complete with the dying scream that apparantly could be heard outside.

I could go on and on about this weekend it really was that good, if I have missed anyone out i'm sorry but thankyou just incase.

To all my new friends, to Malika, Harry, Os, Terry, PropStore and all that contributed thankyou.

as soon as the pictures start filtering thru from the UKG i'll get the links posted here for you guys.

Sarge (Friendlyskies) topman, lets double team the crap out of everyone again soon mate

Till the next time......

Its NOT game over guys, it's NOT game over!!!!!!

Phew, well, I dont really know what more I can say, that hasnt already been said! Turned into quite a long weekend for me, leaving home at midday on Friday, and returning home at 16:15 hours Monday.

I didnt really get to see much of what was happening round the NSC execpt for the inside of the Challenger Suite- a little bit panicky Friday night that it took so long to set up and we didnt have much in the way of rehearals before the public turned up and wanted in Sat morning, but it all came together! We started working on the AE back in January, and it was so good to see after so much work and effort it all came together. Sooooo, without further ado, a huge thank you to the Bugs, Marines, Scientists, Crew and NSC for making the Alien Encounter the best thing that happened on this world (or any other) this weekend. I cannot find words to express how good you all were, and how much effort you have all put in, thank you all.

Malika, once again, thank you for looking after us all so well, and giving us such a kewl playground! (And thanks for the mention in despatches!);) I still owe you a ride (so to speak!)

Andrew- thank you for the loan of the two alien suits, it made such a difference to the whole event. And I cannot wait to see the the footage you have taken over the whole weekend.

The AE again- there were a lot of subtle touches in the Challenger Suite that were added- the DVD presentation, the signage, posters, badges, displays, mugs, live feeds, sound fx, melted bullet proof glass.... the list goes on. Thanks to everyone who produced such fantastic props and set dressing to add to the overall affect and feel.

Harry, what can I say? Big hugs!! Thanks for everything- the list is too long! (BTW, I never did explain the board name, did I?)

Terry English- what a top bloke! Cant wait to see what comes from our chats this morning! ;)

Karen- popping candy! Top stuff!! Thank you!

And Geordi- Cheers mate for introducing me to the world of the AL back in November, for all the support and for everything you have done.

Blimey, what a post! Apologies to anyone I have forgotten... its been a looooooong weekend. I cant sleep though.... I'm too excited!

All the very best to you all.

TTFN

Jon.

(One other thing, thanks for taking the egg of my hands too- I really didnt want to bung it in the skip, but there was no way it was going to fit into the car to take it home!) Shame the corpse ended up in there though.

We got some GREAT looks from other drivers on the way home, from the egg Fraz, Sandy and myself nabbed...

Hopefully it'll scare the crap outta some poor unsuspecting player at S8 next weekend.

I'm glad you took it, I didnt want to throw it away, as I had spent quite a bit of time trying to get the look right, and rigid enough to stand up to a bit of abuse.

I managed to squeeze the unopened egg onto the front seat of my car, but if did make driving home a bit difficult as I couldnt see left very well!

Next one is going to open..... 8)

I've just thought of something, I dont think I took any pictures of it at all. Is it at all possible you could take a couple of snaps and email them to me when you have time?

Thanks!!

TTFN

Jon.

Nice to meet you all again, so many sets of armour this time! Embarrassingly, everyone else's was painted the correct colours, haha.

I wish I could have stayed the whole weekend, dissappeared Friday & resurfaced Sunday evening, but I had a great time whilst I was there- the place was perfect for the event, and everything & everyone was buzzing. Shame the Q & A session, which was well lead & interesting anyway, wasn't particularly well attended. Fantastic work on the alien encounter.

And I can use a motorway without dying now, woo!

We don't need an anniversary excuse for these events, I hope everyone realises this.

Lewis

Right-ho I bring a message from PFC Bazfish! who is unfortunately experiencing difficulties with his computer.

He just wanted to say that it was an absolutely fantastic weekend. It was great that all the different groups worked together to put on the best Aliens show ever, and that it was nice to meet everyone and put names to faces. Hopefully there will be another show next year :) . He promises to return asap and post a more bazfish style message.

Also he has a list of lost property that if anyone has them could be returned to him asap.

#1. A pair of oakley sunglasses missing one stem

#2. two rechargeable AA batteries

#3. A pouting Valkyrie

Message ends ;)

I lost a roll of black gaffer tape, but in the true spirit of rock & roll whoever found it can keep it.

Put it on eBay maybe?

"As used by Harry Harris"

It might get a bid.

If I bid on it.
