Boy, with you crazy lads involved do we have to have an AL licensing board to determine who gets to wear these?

Quick update...
I have right now two different groups who've said they can do these. One is here in the US, the other is in... South Africa.
Yes, South Africa.

One of our board members is also checking prices with a company in the UK.
The South African company said...
Quote:
The tartan is double width, thus 4 meters required for a kilt.
Cost per meter will be around US$16-US$25 if it is done in
13 oz, 50% wool, hand woven.
The minimum practical quantity is 50m, and the lead time
to weave is 9 weeks.
We can produce kilts of various sizes from it for you at
around US$ 140 per kilt
GREEN makes it more costly due to the MAD cost of the dye,
since for bright green, you either have to use a miniral pigment,
which contains toxic chromium, thus not an option, or synthetic. Organic or
botanical dyes, as weird as it might sound, coming
from green stuff, does not do green too well.
This is not a problem at all, just a comment and to the strange
world of forcing yarns to change colour permanently to what
one wants.
The US one is looking like the kilt will be in the $170-$200 range. I don't recall the
material particulars but I can post them up later after I get home.
As I recall they stated they'd use 8 yards for the kilt (typical for a "good" quality kilt),
which in turn impacts the higher price.
There are two common types of tartan/kilt fabric, a 50/50 wool/acrylic blend 'Poly Viscos"
and the 100% wool.
The blend can be machine washed, the wool should be dry cleaned.
The blend is normally a lighter weight fabric (anywhere from 11.5oz to 13 oz weight),
suitable for Atlanta in the summer, but not so much for colder climates. The heavier
weight is normally a 16oz weight, which is usually higher cost as well.
