The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

If you succeed, you can count me in for a purchase of at least a half dozen. I was wondering if anyone was going to take a stab at making some. I also wondered if I had what it took to cast the helmeted versions for my own use, but perhaps I'll just let the experts do their thing a while and see what pops up!

Very nice work btw. HUGE improvement.

On another topic, we all need to tweet Randy and let him know that we want Vasquez. He seems to change his mind when there's obvious fan demand. I know that Jenette Goldstein is open to the idea of a figure. I tweeted her months and months ago and she mentioned that no one from NECA had contacted her about a figure.

Supposedly figures.com reported that the "Windrix" tribute figure was supposed to be Apone, but Al Mathews turned down the likeness rights and they went with the tribute as a fallback plan. I don't know how credible the claim is though.

Considering Al Mathew's favorable opinion on having a figure "if it looks like (him) and if they pay (him)" as quoted in an old alienexperience.com interview, once again I have to speculate that Neca is lowballing the talent. If Mathews was demanding Schwarzenegger money, then I can understand I guess, but I just fear Neca isnt taking the 'lesser talents' seriously by paying them. Them not even reaching out to Goldstein, to me, backs up the fear they just dont want to pay actors/actresses when they can just repaint an alien or resculpt a hip joint and resell the same old figures. Shame.

I'm surprised he's going to sell copies, I didn't think he did that.

We need copies of the shoulder lamp as well. I wonder if sometime down the line, NECA will release an accessory pack?

There great fun to paint (once you cut the armour off ) but not a great quality plastic so will need a good primer and a matt coat after to stop the paint from rubbing off

Any chance you could do a quick tutorial Soapy? You're saying cut off the armour, then use a primer, but then did you paint the green or the dark browns first? Looks like the white bits were last, and then a matt coat, yes? I'd love to do this for mine. What brand of paints did you use?

yes mate here you go.

I primed the plastic with some matt varnish just so the acrylic paint adheres to the plastic better .
paints are
flesh: Vallejo flesh base . then shadow flesh glazed into the recesses. then highlighted with vellejo flesh highlight .then I used a waterd down black as a wash to add shadow and a 5o'clock shadow and dirt on the arms . also gave the hair a wash of it as well to add depth.
camo. vellejo olive drab as a base then . black put on in y and s shapes .then Russian green over 80% of the olive and 10% of the black .then Iraqi sand added in little squiggles . then all matt coated.

the armour was cut under the arm on both sides and under one shoulder pad and when painted super glued back together

all I did was add some more silver weathering to the edges and some thinned black washed in to the recesses to give depth.
Image

the accessories were then tidied up and parts repainted in the olive as its a close match to what I see brown bess as .
everything was then coated in matt varnish.

now some action pics !

Soapy, does the paint stay on well when moving the joints? Is the matt coat that effective or do you have to be careful with how you pose them?

Hi guys thanks for the feedback .
The mattcoat dose help to a point but any "rough play" oo er !:) can make it come off the worst area would be the backs of the knee .might be worth useing a matt nail varnish on those points ? I've made sure the backs of the knees have the tan colour on the bits where it would rub so if the tan colored plastic shows thru it won't be noticeable.
Really want to do a sqd just need a flamer and a smart gun . Some kit bashing in order i think

Yeah the skull pack is awesome. I'm thinking of buying another one and then just littering the floor of a diorama with them.

With the release of Flamethrower Marine I'm going to attempt to build a Dietrich figure. I was given this random head (from one of McPhee's figures I'd guess), and with the glasses shaved off and a repaint I think it's a pretty decent likeness. While the sculpt isn't as nice as NECA's, at least it wasn't painted cross-eyed.

I also stumbled across these leftovers from my shoulder lamp build. They are tiny metal plates that IMHO look like SmartGunner armour. Anyone interested in making their own Drake or Vasquez?? I'd almost consider making a "post spray" Drake to stand next to one of those battle damaged Xeno's, but he'd already ditched the SG armour at that point. PM me if you're interested in either of these plates.

Just awesome setup. Are the bases custom? Or can you buy these. I imagine I would need two dozen before its all said and done!
