The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

@Bugstomper: Why would you want the sand colored version? You're just going to paint it anyway, and if the paint gets scratched it will look like... well... a bad thing.

Kind of like what happens to guns made out of white resin.

Actually, that was the color they were available in.
I'm not sure tough if it really looks worse than black if it gets scratched. Sure better than neon green or something like that

Stefan

Hi folks!

The conical "loudspeaker" part looks to me like the inside of an EMA cone (either VC-60 or VC-90 depending on the angle of the cone.) The EMA parts have moulded ridges on the inside face to assist with cutting - just like the part pictured.

I have one of their catalogues somewhere, will try and find it.

Got my Harley kit today. Not the right part. The top of the cylinder is flat, but patterned.

I believe the flattened dome part on the side of the gunsight is also an EMA dome.

What is the maker? Mine was Revell.

I got a IMAI kit coming...

I think the top piece is a seperate part. Notice the small hole,

that could be for the foot peg.

My kit is an Imai FLHC classic. There's a Matchbox 1/12 Harley on Ebay right now, too.

I read on a forum through Google that all the Imai Harley kits have the same engine, which is a big error they made. Don't know if that includes our part.

EMA Cone

Image

If Gio can get a diameter measurement, we should be able to match it.

On Spunkmeyer's helmet, these parts seem to match up

Again, with measurements, I can get the correct codes.

Possibly this one?

Thanks to UKWookie for pointing out the EMA connection

I've hopefully got a good close pic of the Matchbox kit part coming.

Is the NVG mount on Spunkmeyer's helmet a stock available item from somewhere, or a custom build? All the american NVG mounts I have seen are just a small unit that clips on the front of the helmet, this seems to have a strap that fastens to the rear, and the "track" runs all the way over the top.

Wasn't the bracket thing on Spunkmeyer's flight helmet from a British Rapier tracking sight ?

... The diameter of the cone is about 18 mm ... but there is a border around too ... for a total of 22 mm.
It could be the EMA cone ... with a border!

The "clapboard" ridged part looks more stepped than overlapped and leads me to think it's suspiciously like a staircase piece from the old Airfix Footbridge kit (now available from www.dapol.co.uk as kit C004). If Gio can measure the width of the part I can check it against the one I have somewhere in my kits stash.

Unfortunately if the "loudspeaker cone" is only 18mm across, that rules out it being the EMA part as the latter is much larger. You can just make out in the picture Birdie posted that the very tip of the cone is a separate part and a) it's bigger than 18mm and b) it doesn't contain the ridge detail. I've seen similar ridging on the plastic mouldings that surround the shutter assembly of compact cameras so perhaps the cameras that provided the lenses for the Marines' helmet cameras were cannibalised???

When I look at that part I don't see steps or overlaps, I just see even flat topped ridges.

Looks closer to this

Do you have any thoughts on this piece?

Is the black section part of the main part? is it painted black?

Cheers,

Simon

The cone looks like it may be the rear thruster cone(s)
from a Macross- Destroid Phalanx (aka missile Phalanx).

Simon ...
about the clapboard, all segments are in vertical, not tilted.

Yes Tarim-rex, it is wider at bottom: from 16 mm to 18 mm,
for a length of 25 mm
