The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

They also used the term "bugger boys".

That is some really cool info! I was wondering about the Harvesters, etc. Thanks very much for filling us in on that. I've got to find that book/game now!!

When Scott was brought on to helm ALIEN he had the idea of making Ash a Martian... The producers took him aside and laid down what kind of universe ALIEN was set in: it was a universe where mankind was alone... nothing at all like what had been envisioned in Star Trek or Star Wars. The encounter with the alien would have marked the first time humanity had encountered a substantial life form other than their own. Giler and Hill stuck to this when filming ALIENS and ALIEN 3. So when Cameron took on ALIENS he was aware of this.

In some of the supplemental material on the Quadrilogy Cameron had stated that people would be more open about sexuality by the time of ALIEN and ALIENS, and would undergo procedures to change their sex with far greater acceptance than present day society. One thing that he pointed out was that on the Crew profiles that were on-screen behind Ripley during her inquest was the term "Neutral" for Gender. He also made reference to the rather androgens looking woman at the inquest.

So it's possible that the Bebops are a society that are known for frequent gender changing... This could make it difficult to get a positive ID on a BeBop insurgent/warrior if they tended to change gender frequently. ...effectively bringing guerilla warfare to a new level. ...Of course Cameron's comments may shed some light on what an Arcturian is, as well. Especially if, according to the film's writer/director and producers, there were no other forms of intelligent life in the universe as of the time frame of ALIENS.

Now gender swapping aside. Bebops could also be pirates, or some form of colonial insurgents that jump from colony to colony, or planet to planet - "Bee Bopping." Part of what the Marines did was police actions to help maintain order in human colonized space. So to that end opposing forces were likely those involved in local uprisings or coos, piracy, border disputes, illegal trafficking, and the like. And throw in galactic exterminators for dealing with infestations of local fauna that didn't mesh well with human colonization.

Interesting take on it, Mike. I like it. So, humanity knew that non-sentient life existed out there and the Colonial Marines obviously spent part of their time on "bug hunts", and were wholly unprepared for a species like the xenomorphs who exhibited uncommon intelligence. Hudson clearly was surprised when he said, "what do you mean they cut the power?! They're animals!"

Again this ties in with the Vietnam allegory- a technologically inferior force (the Vietcong) who fought with such tenacity that the lack of technology was not a handicap.

In the case of Aliens- the USCM were arrogant in believing their small but armed to the teeth group could handle anything. They were totally unprepared for the overwhelming number, and guerilla tactics of the Xenos.

And one more thing...

Yeah but I understand that Sideshow Bob snuck back into America by entering Canada first and posing as a comedy writer.

Heck, I live in Florida and want to flee to Canada...

When a thread degenerates from it's original topic where two or more people just begin discussing something completely unrealted...

this is refered to as hijacking a thread or simply a hijack. Sometimes we use visual aids (dripping with sarcasm) to remind the offending parties to steer the thread back to it's topic.

Or you can be like Kevin and post sixteen posts that have nothing to do with the topic at hand, just to boost your post count. :D

Much as it would going against what I just finished saying- I have to respond to this...

I know your kidding Russ (well... half kidding  )

But...

The posts above from me that make no sense (that originally started with "triple post) were duplicates of the post I made with the cartoon hijack pic.

When I originally submitted that post- I was given a "Debug Mode" error message a couple of times. The third time the post worked.

When John posted his reply and I checked the thread- I realized my post had been duplicated three times. If I had seen this before John's post- I would have simply deleted the duplicates, but because there was a post following mine, I no longer had that option; I could only edit the posts.

Feel free to delete the extras if you like Russ. Like I said earlier, I'm a post whore... But I'm not that much of a post whore.
