The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

All the tips are great, but I must disagree with Spat on the ticket issue.

Best get the ticket now and pick it up as soon as you arrive....wait and you'll be in line and wasting time. Get caught without a ticket......not worth the risk and plus we need to support the con.
Too many USCM's caught without badges.......looks bad for us as a group.

Other than that..
- Drink plenty
Canteen on your belt works, plenty of water stations around the Marriot.
- Budget now and save. Best to have the cash while there than pay for it when you get home
- Stay safe, and have fun.

See you all in Atlanta :)

Don't try to start a drunken fight with boyfriends by insulting the over weight women in an over crowded and broken elevator between the 19th and 18th floor of the Hyatt.

Glad my friends were with me to keep me from being too silly.

A repair kit is a must. I bring a supply of black zip ties. I attach my badge with them to the side of my outfit. Nothing spoils a cool costume more than a badge hanging down the front of it...

Repair supplies include-
velcro
scissors
hot glue gun w/ plenty of hot glue
sewing kit
pliers
zipties (these are a must! Scott helped repair my armor last year after a rivet popped)
black duct tape
gaffers tape or at least electrical tape
SPARE BATTERIES!!!
Energy bars

Yeah it's just supposed to be a quick repair kit folks...

Not a friggin' workbench to finish your project with in your hotelroom!

Oops! Did I just say that out loud Sean?

Yeah...a repair kit is a must. I always manage to do in my gear while on the parade and 5 min epoxy is a must! I also bring my super leatherman tool. I like that one because it has the saw. Zip ties, large safety pins for ripped pockets or whatever, duct tape (1000 mile tape/gun tape, etc), 550 para cord, etc, etc. You get the idea. Energy bars a big yes. Sometimes there is too much happening around you but you're starving and need a quick boost so eat one of these. I'm still looking for a corn bread energy bar (sounds like a product I could sell hmmmmmm). Seems like the others have covered everything else.

Mike

Hey, I tell you what, man... that tube of 5-minute saved my ass when my smartgun fell over. That's one repair item my con kit will never be without!

And didn't Ripstick fabricate himself a set of aluminum armor like 4 hours before the start of the con one time?

My two cents....

Have someone who can take care of you.... (Thank you Troy and Mike. :P )

Have a bottle to carry around your water....and then an extra for your booze. One swig of water, then a swig of booze can keep ya going all night.

If you are male or female, have a stand by significant other...this can get you out of akward situations quickly.....or possibly put you in them depending on how good you are.

Thursday night is the 'hang out with peeps' night at the Hyatt bar as Spat suggested. Also -its a good place to check out people before they get in costume....nothing worse then macking on some not so good looking person, because you think they are good looking in their costume.

Be nice to the people with the radios (the real radios, not the costume ones) as they have a hard enough job as it is. Most of them are volunteers who are hungry and dehydrated and have been on their feet all day after getting no sleep, and they are just doing their job when they tell you that they can't take a picture of you mooning Bill Shatner. Well, not without slipping them $20 at least...

And when I say "I can't sneak you in" it doesn't mean that we're not buds, it means that I like keeping my job. Unless you're with Spat, he seems to know everyone and is let in every place. :P

Actually, I don't know anybody at these shows. See rule #28.

They all know me.

:)

And it's nice to finally see some Marines in Maryland! I hope to be at Shore Leave, and future Farpoints, and would love to see a USCM turnout! I hope you guys can swing down to ShevaCon this month!

Ok, I posted the completed rules on my website. Check it out:

http://www.spatcave.com/conadvice.htm

I added in some of the advice that you guys mentioned, and changed it around to be advice for any convention, not just DragonCon.

Hope you like!
