The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Wrong topic but i mentioned it on my last post so i figured i'd put her up for review. The section around the barrel needs revising as it doesn't go far enough into the body of the gun but apart from that don't think its too far off on dimensions just a long way off being finished!!! :D

Bloody hell! That's exactly what I'm hoping to do too. Did you have any guide to go by Shelby?

No really had trouble finding anything at all, so had to scale it off my MG53 (as the front of the gun protrudes you can use the known distances on the gun to get most of the sizes of the rest of it). There's some really good side shots of a propstore one but unfortunatly it's taken a battering and most of the detail is missing but you can get the basic shape. There's some really good angle shots on the DVD special edition and there's always screen shots for the sighting system and paint. It's taken a lot longer than it should this one mostly due to the re-design from static display to motion activated nerf gun and it's pretty huge but the electrics are all sorted now and this is a bit of an old photo, the top section is now all in, so its moved onto the next project to do list!. :D

Shelby, how thick is your plywood core for your M240?

Should really add that although 24mm is great for the main body, you have to be a little creative at the front and the back with a filler this thick as the handguard and the rear AR don't like it! Read lots of work for your dremel

Yeah. I get that. I was messing around with plywood and I was getting about an inch for thickness for the main body to look right. That thickness of approx 24mm might be too thick for a pure screen accurate grip and trigger, but any thinner and I'm not sure about durability after casting mine...

Yep 24mm looks right and fits retrogarde's 3" at the thickest point post on his build pages. As for whats right or wrong with the grip/trigger i reckon as long as you're happy who's to say it's wrong!

Ok as you could prob see i rushed the back end a little and their was a few areas i wasn't happy with. Before the connector was too far into the body of the gun so had to do some hacking to the rear AR to get to the connector, but now i've wound it back out on its screw thread and think i have it set to the correct distance. The screws that wasn't bedded in correctly have been removed all the filler and glue have set so the units solid without them, so they won't be going back in, i'm just going to fill the holes and fill the area around the connector to bed it in as per the original :D

Cheers Retrogarde, couldn't have done it without those dimensions you gave me, turned out to be a fun build :D. Hopefully finishing her off this week.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Ah the Sulaco, she's the cardboard model created by Jan Rukr. It's available on line in the Aliens or Alien 3 guise but be careful she's addictive and an origami nightmare, you'll empty your local ink suppliers shelves and use half a rain forest!! But definitely worth it, it's so cool ☺
Oh forgot to mention that she's HUGE

The nozzle is nothing more than two pieces of PVC pipe with a wood Web and a bit of filler. I got the angle off the blown up photo's of the original. Dremel out the hole in the larger pipe glue in the smaller, then just remove the small pipe with the dremel when it's dry to make the body. Drill out the slots and file them up nice and then slide in a section of reduced diameter pipe to create the bottom cut outs. The detail bits are just carved from a bit of timber and glued on. Didn't take any photo's during construction but i still have the trial version and the finished one so I sent you a couple of photos. Hope this helps if I've missed anything you need let's us know ☺

thank you. That looks a lot easier than my route which would have been to 3D it, then print it and it looks fine.
