The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

My son was playing on his Nintendo DS and I started staring at that perfectly sized square screen. I wonder...

Nice one with the idea Retro!

Now, lets get this ball rolling! :)

The original DS has 3" exactly sized screens while the DS Lite (as Willie linked above) has screens sized 3.12"

I can only speak for myself here but I think I would prefer to use the Hama bubble window over the screen, so the touchscreen is unnecessary.

Agreed, the goal would be to leave the exterior entirely screen accurate, including the HAMA lens.

Third this.
I have a small MP4 Player behind the Hama lense and it works well.
The only negative point with this solution was that you see the Movie Play Controls.
If you find a full screen Player (Adrino, Android, ...) that would be perfect.

Just a thought as you can get a MT app on your phone you could you use an old smart phone as the screen it would look like it's working and make the sound. I'm thinking of doing this when I get round to building mine

There's no Smartphone small enough to fit in a slide viewer is the problem. A few of us have made phone cases that attach to the MT, but it's just a temporary workaround. Sgt. Kitten posted one on his thread. That App is fun!

Indeed. In the long run Smartwatches (or other Android devices) might be an option.

So far a DS type Display is a great option.

Wow I should heck back here more often! Lots of posts to catch up on!

I imagine we all want to have the viewer screen in tact and an LCD inside so the DS screens seem to be a pretty good direction to look. I checked out most of Willie's links and some were just for the digitizer portion of the screen so be aware of that if anyone is going to grab one to play with. I'll have a ask a couple people I know that mess around with electronics and see if they know anything about working with LCDs and playing videos on them. Creating an animation should be straight forward enough.

I can not believe so many interested and nobody manufactures this kit at a good price. Could use a smartphone with application ?. There are many models of cheap phones, there may be one with a screen that works.

Well I have joined the ranks of Motion Tracker builders!

I was going to scratch build a MT but decided instead to buy a kit from Sparcave.

I did this for two reasons; one is easier just to put the kit together and secondly it is so difficult to get the screen accurate parts.

So the important question is;

Where do we get the electronics to make it beeped as a motion tracker does in the film?

I saw this from a guy from UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axLAljLwof8

I think it is perfect. I think that is an iPhone 4 but could place a MP4 or other smartphone.

Kotus, that's just the app being played in an oversized (but clever) housing. He's done a good job keeping the feel of it, but that won't cut it for folks trying to use a HAMA slide viewer (original or resin).

FYI

As you will know I have just bought a MT from SpatCave. I hoped he would know someone that does the electronics. So I sent him an email;

"Do you know anyone or company that can provide the electronics for the tracker?"

"The only person who used to make them is Hyperdyne Labs (I think that was the name). I know they were expensive, but I’ve heard good things about their work, though I’ve never actually seen them in person. Sorry!"

So no joy there!

Working with ERV on this, he is looking to know the number of people interested.

Are the mods okay if I do an interest list in the PX..... but it is ERV's kit?

He is busy with starwars electronic kits, but he is open to do a run if there is enough interest.

I might have to assist with some electronic sourcing in Asia.
