The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Am I right in saying the electronics and case below it is the original monitor case and circuit board, they just took the top off and attached the screen inside the tracker?

From what I remember reading years ago, yes, the electronics would not fit in the actual prop. However, I thought I read they used an oversized version of the "hero" view screen, not one with the electronics mounted underneath. No idea where I read that though.

Damn this having two threads.

As posted in the other SDCC thread:

FF to 3:25 to hear about the MT and a brief look at it:

Shame they didn't pick it up so we could see all of it, but I guess with all the wires it'd be difficult. :|

Am I the only one cringing every time she physically touches it??!?!

Also, hate to say it, but I believe the 'global uplink' tracker kit claim that it was cast off the real prop. Suspected it was the case but now feel confident: All the inaccuracies of the Viewer in the kit are clear as day and actually present on that specific hero tracker (elongated box, extra flate screen, ridges around screen different than regular viewer, etc).

(still a horribly cast/re-cast and incomplete overpriced kit though. Just saying I am not calling 'BS' on its very first origins :P )

Well when you say that this one has the long body, Remember that this one was used to have the tracker look real and play the tracking screen. the other ones are the smaller bodies i think i will have to look later. but the likelyness that GUL having a screen used one is not that likley. when i talked to them at the con they had said they didnt think any were left and were shocked at it showing up.

They don't need to have one now, just needed to have access to it at some point in the history of the prop. But it doesnt really matter, it's their claim, not mine.

But of course I am aware this funky long body is the one with the electrics & functionality. That is my point. The GUL kit's viewer is a funky long one with different ridges and dimensions than the regular smaller 'viewer' used on the other versions.

That is why I am saying its possible the horribly inaccurate viewer on the GUL kit looks the way it does because it was indeed cast off the version of the real prop that was never intended to be seen from the side. But again, it doesn't matter, just possibly a bit of nifty back story in the history of resin props.

ahh ok lol. never really seen the GUL version. i know the body i bought was said to be molded off of a screen used one also but i didnt take it to heart. as it alwasy happens in the prop world some1 says this was used in a movie and everyone believies it.but like you said thats the past and we will never know. would i kill to have the one from SDCC i think we all would but $45k wow.
