The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

When weathering, always wipe DOWN. This gives the impression that rain/water/sweat pulled the dirt down with it.

In regards to chips; Always think why the chip happened, focus on the high points.

And the best advice:
Stop what your doing after every set of chips, step back and look. Resist the "just one more" urge.

I used the spray bottle/spray paint method on mine. I think it combines the look the best. But that's me. It will give a streaked look.

Well...I'm 90% done. Just need to add the back brackets (once they are painted), finish the M41a grenades and add to the straps, and swap out the current foam padding for new stuff. Also need to paint the new rivets. Still kind of unsure as to graffiti on the front. But it's basically all painted up. I weathered it, but didn't do a lot of wear marks. Did some on the neck and one leg, but didn't like how it came out. So I'll let nature take it's course. For the graffiti I still have to add my blood type (need some red paint). Most of it I used a paint pen and small brush with white paint combo.

Overall shot of it, with my improvised armour stand.

This was a repair made by falken108, so I tried to incorporate it into the armour with a graffiti remark, referring to a "close call" on a previous deployment.

Great armor. I love the graffiti, particularly the "fart loading" on the back piece.

I'm also digging that historical collection of yours. 8)

Work on the PR has begun. It's at the pre-primer phase and ready to be painted. I didn't take too many pics of the work in progress, since there are lots of the Spulse out there being assembled. I did run into a few snags though with pre-drilling my holes...in some cases the screw worked against the two pieces being assembled and started to force them apart. I had to re-drill them out in some cases and made more holes than I needed to.

I hope to have it painted by this week-end's end.

Nice work. I've never seen a spulse built before. Looking forward to the painting!

So I ran into some bad luck...and I should have been more observant. As I painted the shrouds brown, I began to see where I had filled my holes that the filler I used...didn't quite do it's job. It appears to have pulled away on some sides, leaving me with a few cresent shaped cracks. It almost looks like the stuff shrank a bit. It was a putty I found in the automotive section in Canadian Tire.

I think the other part of the problem is me...instead of taking my time and looking the rifle over well before painting even primer, I just wanted to get it painted. Now I'm paying for it. I'm going to try and do some creative weathering to hopefully make the bad areas seem less noticable. :(

And naturally they are on the outside...I'm such a dumbass lol.

If the colour looks light...fear not! Once I get through a few rounds of black wash, it'll be just the right shade. Hopefully.

Have you considered using a pin hole filler for the gaps, resanding and just painting over? Bondo makes a product I've used for jobs like that.

I think I'll have to Charlie...I'll check the hardware stores again. If I can't find that, then I'll get some model putty. As much as I am loathe to repaint it...anyway, I went ahead and did the wash. That came out pretty well. Makes it look quite battle used and dingy. Here is a before and after...you can see the magazine with the wash, against the rest of the PR which didn't have it at this point. Made the colour spot on imo.
Image

This is a shot of the holes after the wash. Wash didn't help much lol. I'll have to re-putty, sand, re-paint, re-wash. :(
Image

A couple of shots of it...I still need a lot of retouching. Like the bolt near the cocking handle, which I played around with painting silver, but I think I'm going to go SA and paint it black. Plus a few other areas...

Image

I must say, the biggest pain in the butt, was masking all of the parts, which was horribly intricate. Then peeling that off, and masking the stuff you just painted. I think that took the longest out of all of it!

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should put my sling screws, particular to a Spulse?

I like the wash. Definitely looks better with. You might try some epoxy putty for the gaps as well. I used that on a blaster build. Chemically hardens but it's soft and Moldable when you first use it. You can stuff it into the cracks, smooth it with a wooden stick and them when it hardens its sand able.
No idea where to put the sling mounts though.

I think your Spulse came out great! I love the weathering on it. In regards to putty, they all shrink to an extent. The trick is to apply them in thin coats, letting each one dry first. It may take a few hours or a day for the putty to gas out. Several light layers built up is better than one or two thick applications. Let the putty dry for at least a day or two before sanding. Another option would be to use JB Weld as a putty. It does not shrink and can be sanded like filler, it's just a bit harder. The benefit is it sets and can be sanded in about 15 minutes.

So, another suggestion for the few marks, you could gouge them out a bit and make them look like bullet hits from enemy fire. I always assumed that's why the shrouds are there in the first place, protective armor for the gun system itself.

While waiting to pick up the other putty, I did some of the weathering...I am very happy with how it turned out. Brought the whole PR together.

Unless i missed something but aren't the front "brackets" on the shroud supposed to be the same color as the shroud?
