The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

just submitted the 1.0.2 update to Apple... hopefully it doesn't take them too long for them to give it to you all :)

full list of changes:
  • Updated distance meter reading to give an actual value of the nearest alien
  • Variable pitch audio based on alien distance (higher pitch the closer they are)
  • Cleaner audio for the sound effects
  • New gyroscope code for smoother experience at different angles
  • Improved alien pulse animation to hide them instead of black
  • Speed of overall pulse put up a notch to match closer to original

Also for those with Android... I have a treat for you too ;) http://t.co/pUNUDSNw

I downloaded this last night, but I couldn't get the screen to "rotate" - I have an iPhone 3gs, so maybe it's not fully compatible...?

the 3gs does not have gyroscopes sadly - I hear some apps "mimic" the gyro but not sure how well it does that... but I'd like to see what is possible to support those devices also

The devices without gyroscopes have a digital compass:

That's what Star Walk uses to figure out which way you're pointing the iPad/iPhone. :)

You any affiliation with that one?

you can hit the phone's menu button and you have the option to "add target" and "reset" and "enable movement" whatever that actualy does i got no clue

For those asking for the Android version, it appeared on the store today:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... NrZXJoZCJd

You guys are actually lucky as this includes the new features (changing pitch in audio and distance reading). Apple still haven't put the iOS update live.

It's down to Apple when it's released.

I've seen other apps' updates take between 1-2 weeks to appear.

Yep, as PVB mentioned it is upto Apple when they release it :(

Don't worry as it's already in their system and if judging by the time it took them to review another app I did the other week, that took 7 days to process (I put that in on the 25th Jan - went live on the 1st Feb). This Aliens update was put in on the 28th soooooo... maybe tomorrow then? :P

I know I'm in the vast minority here, but I'd love to see it ported over to the new BlackBerry 10 OS. It's super easy to port an existing Android app.

Really? You are the first person in years that I've heard has a blackberry. Dying breed. I loved mine at the time but talk about lost in the shuffle.

Go to blackberry.com and check out BB10. You might be surprised. And my phone is actually an android, but I'm on my BB tablet right now. ;)

UPDATE: well, that was quicker than I expected... its already gone live for the iPad version! keep chking your local appstore for the update today :)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aliens- ... ?ls=1&mt=8

as guessed, the 1.0.2 update just went into "in review" status a few mins ago... not long to go now! if all goes well, it should be out for you all sometime tomorrow (usually)

Just grabbed the iPad update. :)

Now all I need is another update to use the digital compass for movement and I'll be very happy.

Jeez... I'd better not mention that I still run one device on Windows Mobile v6.5, two more on WM v5 and occasionally one on CE, then!!

I just had a comment about the latest 1.0.2 update and the user mentioned that he did not like the new sounds or faster pulse rate. Does anyone have any opinions about this also?

Do take into consideration that the new source material for the sounds were taken from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-wclOZYykA which I believe is confirmed to be the original sounds Fox used for the movies.

...and the new speed for the pulse was done to match it with the scenes in the movie more closely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LgPNK0EPtE

I am more than happy to hear what others have to say about these minor tweaks :)

On my v1 iPad the expanding ring does pulse faster than the one in the first vid, but I have no problem with that, as the film one matches it pretty closely.

Im also not a fan of the new pulse speed. The first speed just felt much better to me. Im not sure why it bugs me now but im hoping you restore it back.
