The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I had alot of people thinking I should paint the body suit to match the glued on piece to help blend it in better. So I guess before the perma-wet I will be adding alot more paint to the suit.

You could sculpt that in clay Pug! Should be easy enough to mold! I'll give it a try! Ive got some spare clay left over!

I glued the back peice of the neck together-tight fit,but the head is on more securely!

Scott, how did you sort out seeing out of the costume? Do you see OK wearing it?

Bloody awesome job man!! Show us more pictures!!! :D

I had a hard time seeing out the head till I cut the louvers out. Now I can see like its not even there. I also cut out the inside latex cap, it was ripping out my hair every time I put the head on. After I cut it out the mask popped out and took the warp out of the head. It is also more comfortable to wear now and fits my head a lot better.

I all ready start to trim and clean my next alien suit parts and the giger alien will be on its way.

I'd like to see that as well! Do you have plans to do something with the hands and feet to make them more accurate to the first Alien?

Are they the big ALIEN-style feet? Are they still available to buy from anywhere?

The Monsterroom feet are much too small for me. They give me bunions ;)

$60-90 for the hands or feet? Are they that good?

And could I ask where you got yours? Did you get your's from eCostumes?

I have a Halloween store 2 months out of the year. I got mine for my wholesaler Morris Costumes. The hands are out of production now, so what ever store has them in stock is all that left to buy. The quality is good but the paint on them kinda sucks. I will be repainting them to match my suit anyway. I have none left in stock except for the ones I own.

I have been asked this question a few times and I figured I would share it here as well.

I looked at all the suit build ups on the net and found that the builds where all the same on mounting the spine and the tail. After looking and reading I seen they had a build up flaw. I took some time an figured out my own way to keep the spine from pulling the chest up and back, and making the suit more comfortable to wear.

Here are some pictures on how I attached the back spine. I took the spin and ripped out two large liver shaped piece out of the foam. I took out the foam so the spine piece would form to my back shape. The spine piece now form fit snug not like a flat piece sticking out and having gaps. This also made the spine tubes to pop into the right spots with out using pvc pipe. I sewed the spine onto a divers vest, this keeps it in place and no chance of moving and pulling on the front chest piece. The chest piece Velcros around to the back to the spine and the dive vest.

Fair play, that's a good idea.

I considered something similar, but dismissed it as being too hot before thinking about the implications. Now I have seen your pics, I might redo mine. However, is it strong enough to hang the tail support wire from without pulling away from your back? ...

Yes, the hands and feet are good 'replicas'. The rubber is thick enough to take some wear and tear, although I did add some rubber soles. I agree with Scott that they need enhancing, painting-wise.

The feet, Gareth, are the ones I wore with my bug suit. They are much larger than the ones that come with the suit kit, and although not true to the Aliens design in my opinion they are a better (Giger) design. I would only use them to parade around in though - the Aliens style feet I would use on a mannequined display for accuracy.

Compare the Aliens feet of Pug, left, and the Alien feet of myself, right.

Thats a smart idea Scott,

I find when wearing my ribs section it stays in place. Ive not had any problem(so far) with the front lifting up. Its a tight fit getting it on. But it holds well for me. But I really do like your design.

Cheers

Likewise, Bri. The vest is so tight on me it cannot move, has nowhere to go.

But I like the way Scotts back piece is contoured to his spine. You can see from the pics it's a more agreeable fit, aesthetically speaking.

Q:However, is it strong enough to hang the tail support wire from without pulling away from your back? ...

A:It will support the tail just fine. I cut the zipper and made the arm holes bigger on the vest to make it easier to put on and take off. Cutting the zipper out and adding velcro straps helps to vent air in and helps on the heat issue and brings all the support to the front. If you sew large piece of velcro onto the tail strap and a large piece to the inside of the vest, this will hold the tail. Since the spine is concaved to the back it will also help in supporting the back spin from swing with the tail and keep it from riding back. Just think of it as a back pack when done.

Q:I find when wearing my ribs section it stays in place. Ive not had any problem(so far) with the front lifting up.

A: Bugz you don't have your tail attached yet, so your chest piece should no pull up. I was talking about the tail being attached to the back spine. That is what cause the chest piece to pull up and back.

Thanks for the advice Mortal! I was actually planning on changing how I attach the tail to the same way as you, but I will still need a point to attach the micro-fibre that prevents the tail from dragging on the ground when it is worn. My current back-piece has a solid point on the harness with an "eye" to hook the wire onto. I need to work out how I could work this into a flexible back like yours.

Having the tail attached to the harness (much too high!) was one of the many compromises in my costume that were due to me rushing to meet the deadline of the NSC Sci-Fi weekend in June 2006. I am slowly rectifying all the dodgy bits.

I have a D ring on the top of the vest to attach my wire and I have my wrist strap. It all depends on how I want to wear the tail at that time. I will post the details on how the tail is attached to the suit later tonight.

Having the tail sewn to the suit and the under harness sewn into the inside of the suit keeps the tail from swinging, pulling down the spin and pulling back the chest piece. I took a Predator 1 latex butt armor but you can use a piece of neoprene to sew the tail on to. After that was sewn together I then seamed it with Dap Weldwood and sewed it onto the suit making sure I sewed it into the harness.
Image

I'm used a LC2 harness, I cut the the hooks and the nylon padding off the straps and sewn this into the inside of the suit. The ends of the harness are sewn to a nylon quick release adjustable belt.

Nice job. Definately the best soloution to fixing the tail that I've seen.
I'll be giving this method a go. Thanks for the info, Scott.
