The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Slowly at the moment. I've been listing loads of marvel figures and some other stuff on E-bay to try and raise the money I need for a Batman '89 costume.
I still need to trim and sand every piece of armour. I have made a good start, but I just need to tidy it all up.

Thanks to Spats for the suggestion. I'll be taking a look once I'm all done with the trimming and painting.

Golden Armor, that SOB, I can't believe he's still in business!

My first set of armor came from him. I was so dissapointed with it that me and several board members hounded Chris untill he gave me a partial refund (in exchange for the return of the armor). It was so misrepresented and a hodge-podge of materials AND I too had a few missing parts.

Piece of crap was putting it mildly.

wtg Spat, very Classy! I salute you!

Venger, this might not be too bad, I have been thinking about it, and maybe you could keep the main breastplate (sanding down that triangl-ish thing to a less pronounced rise) and back plate, and the littel outside shoulder squares. Then redo the lobster plate, and main shoulder loops in pep and fiberglass them, they lost a lot of detail in casting and I am thinking if you pepped out those three parts for the body, it would bring back the detail to the armor to make it a prety decent rig.

pepping the lobsterplates and ear defender plastes on teh helmet could do the same.

I know it's extra work, but pepping things out is cheap and it might be the nudge you need to get over the top on this build.

I am guessing you dont need to be told to avoid GA now, I bought a Morita casting from him back in 06 and it was so warped it could double as the letter "C".

Sorry to see how bad the stuff you've received is, Venger... I really hope you do manage to pull it together into something half-decent!

Yeah, just been catching up.

You made a good job of your resin PR kit Venger so I'm sure you'll make this look half decent in the end.

Sorry to see you've had such a disappointing experience with this 'dealer' though. :(

I know it'll be loads of work but keep us posted on your progress.

All the best.

John. :)

Trimmed, filed and sanded the armour today and gave him a bath (Awww). Now I need to cut the slots for the strapping, test fit and then begin the painting.

Image

I'm hoping to get loads of work done on this armour over the next few days.
Remember there's a shoulder piece missing, but I will hopefully have that at the beginning of next week.

Well the edges are still rather warped but there's not much I can do about those. I've trimmed off as much as I can.
Some parts look worse than others. For example the shin armour looks pretty nasty on the edges. I can't cut off any more or they won't fit around my legs.
Once I get it all painted and strapped up, only then can I say for sure I'm happy with it.

I'll post more pics of the painting process. They should be coming soon.

Cut the slots for the strapping and I've given all the armour 2 coats of grey primer. I did intend to give it it's first layer of hammered metal paint, but the weather is really looking poor and the can of spray I have isn't coming out like it should, so I may have to get a new can tomorrow.

The picture here is of the armour with ONE coat of primer. I couldn't take pics of the second coat as it looks like it'll rain any minute so I had to get it in quick.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.

Are you not blending the edge of that front plate in with filler then?

It would make it look allot better in my opinion.

I know it would take some work but could it be sanded down. It would look much better blended.

The front piece with filler option was just a massive pain in the arse that I honestly couldn't face doing. I tried heating and bending it, but the plastic is too thick.

Update time!

Painted the base coat of metallic silver. It's all shiney! I'll give it about an hour to dry then add the first layer of olive drab.
The weather is alright today so I should get it ready for the camo painting stage. Humbrol paint can sometimes take a while to dry, but I'll at least have 1 part painted by tonight.

Almost a whole can of Krylon paint later we have the base olive green coat done. 2 coats plus some touching up in some areas. If anyone is thinking of getting some armour and painting it yourself, if you're painting the inside and the outside you'll need 2 cans. I've only painted the outside as black foam is gonna be glued to the inside of the armour.

Next will be the first part of the camo paint.

Much better mate ;-)

As for the foam on the inside I'd personally be against doing this mainly because when you sweat in the kit (much like you would in your TK) it's going to soak up in to the foam and after a while it's gonna start to stink a bit ;-)

Just a thought mate

could he not attach velcro to the foam and the inside of the armour so the foam can be removed and washed?

Well when I say foam it's that foamies stuff that's waterproof. It's more to stop the armour clanking around. Also it's only 2mm thick.
