The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I use DVDWorldUSA for multi-region BDs (they stock both US and m-r if there's both) and they only list the anthology as multi-region, so you should be okay. :)

http://dvdworldusa.com/shopexd.asp?id=74841

Their prices are sometimes expensive though, like in this case.

Can you check whether they say what region they are? :)

I'm not seeing any Region code on the back details....interesting.

Well I sat and watched Alien and Aliens yesterday - WOW!!!
A few points that REALLY stuck out were:

Burke at the beginning - makeup smudge
Dropship landing - the ship looks SO much more 3D than before
The Colony - you can REALLY see the work that went into making the sets

25+ years old for these movies.....the visual effects STILL stand up even in HD....well worth the money!

I caved in and went and got it. I cannot wait another several months....who am I kidding.
The menus look awesome, great attention to detail. I watched ALIEN last night and found all the model photographs too on disc 6....wonderful.
There are some new photos of the Sulaco model on there too which is great.
Now on to watch ALIENS tonight, I looked at a couple of scenes yesterday and was staggered by how much clearer it looked.

I like the Enhancement Pods on disc 5; I saw the ALIEN pods, and one on the matte paintings for Alien 3 which was really interesting.
One thing I've noticed on the net this last couple of months is a real backlash against 'heavily used' CGI movies i.e. Star Wars Prequels; it's nice on the Anthology blurays to see the enthusiam people that worked on the movies have about making the props, sets, etc with their hands, rather than someone sitting in a cubicle clicking a mouse 8) Personally I like both (well, I'll always like model making) but I'm looking forward to The Thing prequel where both methods are used.
CplTony is totally correct after 25 years the movies still look terrific.

They are on disc 6, in the ALIENS Post Production Section, under Image Galleries.
Lots of new images of the minatures under construction inclusing the Jordan Tractor, AP Station and the Colony.
Same with ALIEN, they too are in the Post Production Section. :-)

One other point....if you look a little closer you can tell the loading bay on the Sulaco and the windows out of Gateway are paintings......but still....awesome work.

So far I've watched all the Alien extras, then the film, followed by all the Aliens extras, and film. Here are a few things I noticed:

Alien:
Has anyone ever explained why the Nostromo patches say "Nostromo 180286", but the screens and Ripley say 180924609. a 9 and 09 have appeared, and the 286 changes to 246.

Aliens:
When watching the isolated camera footage, it looks like you can see Newt, or a member of the crew in Hicks' helmet cam footage.

Why is Hudson not listed on the personnel list?

Lambert was a man (briefly)!

There is a comic with Atari mentioned in Newt's Airway E.

Loads of names in data screens (inquest screens), Cameron, Hurd, Cobb, Shusett, Rambaldi, O'Bannon, Wisher, Terminator, Giger, Ridley, Hill, Foss, Carrol, Heinlein, even Tyrell Corporation!

The bottom gun on the Sulaco was originally on the top.

As well as the "Bishop hole" being fixed, and the PR/Flamer shots being swapped, I was happy to see that they also removed the marks on the large Medlab windows. I always noticed them a lot, and it bugged me. Now there are no marks at all until Ripley whacks the chair against it, and only the correct mark appears. :D

Has anyone noticed any other fixes?

Yeah, it's different on the Nostromo model too. On the nose section under the viewport there is the older company emblem with a number.

I hadn't realised there was so much difference with the Alien bluray as opposed to the older dvd's, but now I see screenshots side by side, it's astounding.
Think I may have to go watch it again...... 8)

BLOODY HELL!!!!!
After seeing that, I might have to drag myself into present day again and graduate to a Blu-Ray player....

I guess I'll need to throw out the old CRT and get one of them 72" über-thin flatscreen 92.56 Dolby Digital surround-sound HD LCD Plasma TV thingumies?

All this, just for some high-def piccies of Ferro, heh heh!!!
OK, maybe the rather out-of-place 'upskirt' shots of Ripley in the Narcissus suit locker, too...

Just found a 20th Century Fox feature on my Xbox 360 dashboard in the Spotlight section, clicked on it and amongst the list of films is Aliens in 1080p HD. :D

You can choose to rent as a streaming video or download for viewing later, or even buy it outright. 8)

Going to just download it for now, just to see how good it looks. :)

The menus are pretty awesome and contain some little titbits.

Anyone else notice Lee Brimmicombe-Wood's Alien anatomy diagrams (or a very close copy of them) in the ALIEN disc menus?

The Alien3 menus allude to an egg that was brought along with the Queen in the landing leg compartment of the Dropship. Alas, this goes against the title sequence of the film that shows the egg stuck rather uncomfortably upside-down on a white interior bulkhead.

Anyone noticed anything else?

As for the films - more fiddling :( - The Alien in Aliens that rises out of the water has had his tail-wire (mostly) painted out. :(

Not to get into a huge debate, but after watching Aliens the other night (again) I came to the conclusion that the queen bought the egg onboard and stuck it to the recess for the rear landing strut where she hid.

BUT....now Gar' has reminded me its a white bulkhead.....where the heck was that?
Bishop didn't have time to stash anything outside of the dropship and the queen wasn't out of sight for more than a few seconds.

My theory used to be that a warrior Alien also came back on the dropship, planted the egg and was just too camera-shy to appear in the films ... that was before I met one! ;)

Just got round to watching Aliens tonight on Blu, and I never noticed before now that there's a prop at the bottom of the airlock door in the Narcissus.
It took me a moment to realise what it is :D
D'oh.

Yup, a few of us had noticed that. :)

I think you can just about see it on the DVD, but it's much clearer/sharper on the BD version, obviously. :)

Why would Bishop secretly stash an egg? :?
You're not confusing him with Ash are you?

Anyway, as with other films/forms of media, just because two scenes/shots are a few seconds apart, doesn't mean there wasn't a real gap in time between the two.

So I wonder if they were dressing Hick's wounds again before getting him ready for moving him out of the Dropship (or doing something else), giving Queenie time to stash an egg somewhere. :)
