The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Look what I got today, now basically the last piece of hardware to the "puzzle" arrived and my armour is complete after I installed it:

Does anyone have close up pics of the screws/rivets they used to attach the hinge plate of the ITEX to the steel lid? The best I have are smallish and grainy, and I want to get it as exact as possible.

Hmmm, black webbing on your lobster plates? I thought OD was screen accurate. But man that metal ear piece is awesome!

Yeah, I really like that ear piece too. I went with black webbing for the lobster plates because that's what I saw on most ref pics. Hard to tell on-screen from movie stills...

Thanks Neil, I keep seeing more flat heads without any drive slots in em, like a hammer rivet but those would be too short. The ones Marsattacks installed in the ear piece seem off compared to what the movie helmets had, that much is clear.

I finished my helmet the other night, and now have my final patches (and am dreading the "sew-on" part, my least developed skill):

Also, I always wanted to show Chef's BDU faded vs. new, so here's a pic of two helmet covers:

Theoretically, he can also hold the PR in a 2-handed grip, but his damn hand is too tiny to fit around the rifle's grip. Maybe heating up the fingers will do the job.
For now, slung rifle and the MT in hand will have to suffice.
Also, I eventually want to give him long black cloth gloves so he'll be neutral like he already is in the face area (man, that mannequin's face is butt ugly).

Today I am repainting my hand welder that I got thanks to Retrogarde and will add that to the display soon.

Then it's only helmet mic/radio/ear piece plus patches, and some grenades - the single one I got (also from Retrogarde) is with a metal worker as we speak and he's trying to hollow it out so the plunger can be depressed if all works out. 8)

That is exactly why I have it on my armour, same as the writing on the helmet. :) I love Full Metal Jacket!

Today marks the finishing of the final few details like putting the patches on the BDUs, accuratizing (is that a word?) the helmet ear guard/mic part and trying on the helmet cover and cutting it to size. I did not snap pics of that, though.

Here's how things look:
Image Image Image Image

Now all is done. What a ride it was. Final reveal of me wearing it all coming up, once I found someone to take decent photos instead of me just standing in my apartment looking daft. :D

A journey worth all efforts and draw back. Looking great!
And yes, I'm not saying "Happy End", because I hope there is more to come. :)

Thank you, man - much appreciated! I'll put it all back on the mannequin soon and snap a couple pictures to show how it all looks together.

I always wanted to post a quick comparison pic of the camo painting and weathering stages, so here it comes. From left to right: base camo fresh from the Humbrol tin / first base layers of black and brown washes / dulled down and misted over from various spray paint cans for final effect.

Here's some more progress, I now put the cover on the helmet.

I need a helmet band that is less dark OD but more light tan, can anyone point me in the right direction? Washing mine did not fade the colour enough.

Also, waht do you guys prefer, helmet cover on or off?

Love the armour weathering/fading! The helmet cover looks a little loose, did you wet it first?

Thanks Nick, no I didn't wet it. It bunches up a bit in the front, other than that it's on pretty tight. Will look into getting it on a bit more form fitting. Bit fiddly to get it just right.

I feel your pain. They can be tricky to get nice and tight. I'm looking to do a hudson helmet soon but using a fibreglass kit, the cover might put a bit too much strain on it.

I'm usually a fan of helmet covers, but I dig the paint job on your helmet and miss it. Your call though!
