The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi all 'just a few to let ya know i'm still beavering away on this :D i was given this crap bit of steel and thaught i can use that, i didnt include the block on the back of the part as the ally ones do as it would have added nearly 1/2 pound in weight to the front of the rifle so i opted to add 3 weld on tabs to hold it in place ,i know the drill pattern isnt correct on the bottom  but with the tools i have it would be imposible for me to do the accurate one on steel but its like one i have seen used so went with it ,i searched for ages to get a corect barrel size as i didnt want to go with copper water pipe 22mm so i found a saddle stem on an old kids bike in the bottom of my garden  that is bang on ,still working on a eject mechanism that works will show you what i have when its nearer completion, all the best , Rob

OK so several months ago i was puttin this together ,correction a lot of months ago ! when upon waking one morning certain parts of me apparently had ceased to function over night after a few trips to hospital and 8 weeks laying flat on my back they decided to work again only to give up a month later this went on for a while, ever have a hangover that lasted 3 months  so now all that unplesantness is behind me i'm back on my feet and can see again, woo hoo i can get back to the important things in life ,i would like to thank the members here that kept in touch and offered there support and good wishes,i wasnt sure of the outcome so decided not to post all the details on here until i knew i was ok again ,but enough about me and on with the story ,a certain resin god on this and another forum stepped up and sent me the mother of all care packages to help out with my humble effort,I now have all i need to finish my rifle if i go down the resin route, but at the start of this i said i wanted a steel one and i just cant let that go, bloody stupid according to my wife and doctor but thats me im affraid  so using Matts resin parts as a guide i now have a totaly accurate pattern to convert to steel and have carried on accordingly, i enclose a few pics of what i been up to the past week or so, they are very much in the rough and need a lot of finishing but i think they pretty much speak for themselves as to what im trying to do, take a look and let me know what ya think
all the best Rob

she's in a different part of the country, but I would assume that "harsh" is a good thing. Around these parts we would say tough in place of harsh, if indeed thats what she meant. If not, I'm sure she will elaborate.

I stick with BAD-ASS to eliminate these little translation errors

I agree with the suggestion of blueing the parts.

You should make the Spas Cages for sale. You would make a killing!

Awesome work, and glad you are feeling better.

cheers people its good to be back :D ,russ that means a lot coming from you ,and nick im glad your still about thanks for droppin by dude iv'e missed you guys its been a hard time for me but im pretty much back on my feet now so if i can get my wife of my back  i can get on and get this finished ,hirohara i would love to be able to make these for other members but the time and effort it takes to make just one would make them far too expensive for members it took me over a month of work to make mine the cage itself is fairly easy to make its drilling and cutting all the slots out that takes the time ,they have to be spot on or it looks a mess ,but if someone wants to do the work of cutting the slots on there own i may be able to make a few cages at a later date but make no mistake its hard work even with a dremmell and costs a fortune in cutting wheels and with my health problems its just to much work for me to make completed ones. as the cage is made in 2 parts a top and bottom and welded together if i was to blue the parts the join would stand out and look realy bad it has to be filled and painted i'm afraid, there are some realy talented guys on here so maybe they can come up with an idea to cut the slots easier :?: thanks once again for the welcome back guys all the best , Rob

Glad to see you working on this project again. I really like watching this one come together. I don't get over here often anymore. I feel bad. I hung out here until I finished my pr, and quit logging in.

Hi dion nice of you to drop by mate :D ,the original idea was to have this cycle rounds but its just to complicated for me to do at the moment but it will load into the mag and im trying to sort out an eject for it but only on a pre loaded round, the lift and mag release of the round are fairly complex for a home builder with limited tools and need to be spot on accurate to work correctly and im just not up to it at the moment but maybe on a later date i will pull it apart and give it a go,i dont know of anyone who has pulled of a working lift and eject "cycle rounds" on a home build, i understand the mechanism its just reproducing it thats realy hard what i need is a real one i can pull apart to measure and copy ,the old problem of working from photos  i am working on the reciever main body at the moment but as this thread is fairly old now i wasnt sure if anyone is realy interested anymore as your the only guy to comment on my last lot of pics ,but i will sling up some shots of my latest for the old crew if they are passing by ,feel free to drop in anytime mate ,all the best , Rob

The idea was to beat the reviever out of sheet steel for the next bit as a real one is cut from a billet block and i realy cant do that with the tools i got so i was rummaging around the shed and garden trying to find something i could use as a shape to beat the steel on and came across my eldest daughters old bike the main crossbar was the perfect shape to use as a starting shape and then i thaught why not just cut out the crossbar and use that instead so 10 mins with an angle grinder and hey presto its off and split down the middle i used an old broom stick to beat the curves round and cut out the back to get the taper on the rear of the reciever just got to weld in the extra bits and cut the eject hole on one side and then i can start on the internals, will stick some more shots up tomorrow when its all cleaned up and sorted properly, once again matts reciever is in the foreground of one of the shots to show what im trying to achieve, all the best , Rob
