The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I don't know why Mr. Matthews had a problem with HT and his likeness, the HT figure looked NOTHING like him!

Actually I think he complained first, that is precisely why it looks so un-like him. As I read (not 'confirmed' anywhere reputable), he even had issue with early versions that had his skin tone correct. So they went with the full goatie (instead of mustache) and much lighter skin tone so as to keep him from claiming his image was taken without permission. In that case it was never clear to me what, if any, compensation was offered there either. It was only clear Al Mathews was pissed.

The fact hot toys didnt get anyone kind of made me think they didnt offer anything though. Neca clearly is paying because they have gotten some talent to sign off.

It seems both explanations are bad. Either the toy companies are disrespecting the non-big-name talent with lowball (or possibly zero) compensation, or the talent is digging in their heals on some idea of principle. I really wouldnt mind paying a couple bucks extra per figure that go directly to the actor/actress if money could solve the impasse. Would be nice if it were that simple.

IIRC the Aliens line was one of the earlier HT releases whereas most of the subsequent actor/human figures that followed got more and more accurate after that.

I'm kind of wondering if NECA just told me that there were likeness issues just as an excuse. But then he offered me free figures if I got them to agree to use the likeness so who knows what is really going on. Anyway, Randy said that he would get in touch with Jenette after toyfair so we'll see what happens. If you guys wanna tweet Randy https://twitter.com/NECA_TOYS we can all let him know we want the full squad! https://twitter.com/NECA_TOYS/status/301022909030342656

On a different note, I'm so glad he finally announced a Queen Alien for Christmas 2013!

I thought the studio owned any likeness when it's reguarding a character?

Example: Mrs Weaver figure - Sig gets the say
Ellen Ripley figure - 20th Century Fox gets the say

:S

A lil while ago I got into a discussion involving use of an actor/actress image. I pointed out Biehn putting the axe to the "corpse idea" in Alien 3, and only allowing a 'still image' to be used after a hefty payday. Apparently in the 80s the studios didnt wield quite so much totalitarian power over likenesses and things like that were haggled over on a case by case basis. Nowadays studios dont budge off the "we own absolutely everything about the character, including the face" before any deals go down. Or so it seems...

Less "totalitarian" than didn't consider it a likelihood of it coming up.
Who would've thought there would be action figures of R-rated moves like ALIENS, Conan The Barbarian and The Terminator back in the 80's?
The first time that happened was Kenner's 18" Alien figure... and we all know how well THAT went!

At least 13 ALIENS figures this year. 2 series w/ 3 figures each, the 3 different 2 packs, & a Queen boxed set. Off to a great start I'd say

Not worth losing sleep over, but the red color of the aliens wasn't meant to be taken literally in Aliens: Genocide. It was just Dark Horse's way to visually differentiate the two factions for the sake of the reader. I always thought it was silly though as two groups of aliens fighting are clearly different *from each other*, but are equally hostile to the heroes so who cares which side they're on?

(stepping off my soapbox now)

If they want to keep that red, they could tone it down a bit.

If not, nothing a seasoned modeler/toy customizer can't take care of.

They're missing a trick here...

Release red versions of Hudson and Hicks aswell and package all three as a 'Operations Battle' pack.

"What do you mean they cut the power..."

The thing that actually has me excited is the comment for "year" totals.

Leading Edge Games, who did the Aliens boardgame and RPG, couldn't use Sigourney's likeness (the character cards for the boardgame had a photo of all the marines, but Ripley was just a sillhouette, while the RPG had no Ripley pictures at all). This may have been to do with her anti-gun stance, and not wanting to appear in a combat-related game.

It does happen though for various reasons; if anyone recalls the Gerry Anderson TV Show 'Space Precinct', Simone Bendix did not allow her image to be used in the annual, they had to come up with a line that her character was undercover. Sean Bean requested that the Sharpe Appreciation Society did not make any t-shirts with just him on them, apart from cast shots with the rest of the Chosen Men.

Al's objections to NECA may simply because he was soured by the previous experience, feeling 'screwed-over'. If he can be convinced they'd do a decent job, and compensate him fairly, he may change his mind.
