The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Got this prototype today. I made this before the hack pouch
release. What do you guys think? I got some minor elastic
adjustments, but I'm happy the way it turned out.

Main body is Cordura with PU coating on the outside.
Will get the graphic silkscreened soon.
I'll be making a limited amount of these since the printer has
a minimum of 25.

Sold Out.

I'm in need of the graphics as I have a flare pouch already.

Very interested, PM sent.

Great work (as usual :) )!

You can definitely count me in on one.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the color of the flares itself. If memory serves me right, they were more of a flat gray. It was probably cardboard. They seem to have used something like this:

(This is actually a Cracker, but I've seen those made as flares as well).

Cheers,
Stefan

Look similar to the A3......flare things.

I've painted mine OD green but with the lighting from the movie I don't think we'll ever know without seeing off screen pics.

Here's a couple of screen shots. If the pouch is truly black, then the flares must be gunmetal, OD green or even BROWN BESS! (for Dom)

I always thought it was cool to ignite the marking flares on the flame unit. 8)

On the original prop there's a piece of what looks like either sandpaper or (more likely) the material that's on the striking surface of safety match boxes on the top.

Harry, do you have any pics you could post. What IS the correct pouch colour, black or OD?

I was talking about the flame thrower - not the pouch. I don't have any photos of the pouch I'm afraid.

That would be sandpaper too wouldn't it? Like 600 or 800 grit sandpaper?

Anyway- Prop looks pretty spot on to me! :D

Matt (Exo2) made one a loooong time ago using aluminum rods- not sure what the pouch was with his.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I'm 99% the pouch is OD according to my years of fabric experience and some photoshop tools.

My proto in poor lighting looks the same.

BS, Got crackers? That's funny!

I'm looking at 1/2" paper tubing (durable actual flare tubing) or

thin wall aluminum tubing. I can make a cap with some fine

grit sandpaper. That would only add to the realness.

Questions for you guys:

Anybody got some screen grabs after they have been lit on the
floors? Could be the decider on which tubing to go with.
I was thinking aluminum, because as she pulls them out, and
puts them into her pocket, they make a metallic clinking sound.

As far a the color on the actual flares: BB, Dark Flat Gray,or a gun metal is fine with me. Any thoughts?? Not sure if there is better picts of this cool little prop on some of the newer DVD releases.

More later tonight.

could it be OD on the outside and black on the inside?
is it a found item or did they make it?

It looks like one of these, shell holder, maybe they painted the outside

Update:

I got a better, more brown OD cordura.

Sent out the Line art for screen printing.

Getting quotes on cardboard tube, and got some
thin wall aluminum tube also.

Mocked up some sweet end caps that will have one end striker and the other end indicating the flare color.

Still looking for a good color for the flare body.
Looking like grayish green.

I'm hoping to have a final prototype soon.

It's OD throughout with 2 inch black elastic.

It is not a found item. Trust me, I do this for a living. Many
of the soft items may be inspired from actual items, but
they are not actual mass production. I've been designing soft goods for awhile, and this is one-off pouch.

I got all the info for the guys interested. Stay tuned for

picts of the final.

Pure sweetness!

Got the screen print test today. Looks Perfect!

This is on the more brown OD cordura.

Can't wait to give this to my sample maker tomorrow.

Will have final picts next week after I get back from

vacation.

I think the pouch may hold chem lights too.

Got an estimate on paper tubing, so looks do-able. Need to

talk to the vendor tomorrow.

I'll have a few extras, because I had to make the screen print
minimum and to make it worth while for my sample maker.

I love making these odd ball props!

I never noticed that the lettering ("M-94 marking flares") wasn't centred!

Presumably as you've had the slik-screen made you're keeping it that way for screen accuracy, but did you consider centering it up at all?

I don't have a final final. Just a ball park.

I'll probably offer it two ways.

With Flares
+
Without Flares

I only have enough material to make 21 of these in the better
OD cordura. I'll make 4 in the more green OD and put them on
Fleebay. The price for printing is better with the 25 minimum.

I'll sort the final cost when I get back early next week.
