The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

From what I've read, the strapping, underneath those bands, is a better match in size and weave, than the bands themselves.

Why have i only recently spotted the flower on Hicks’ helmet? I only spotted it yesterday in images of Remar in the Hicks gear… did Michael Biehn remove it?

michael biehn may have removed it but I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron removed it. It would have been an annoyance to keep in continuity with it falling off or getting smashed. Biehn wasnt a fan of the heart and cameron took off all the Aliens domes cause they were to much to worry about getting damaged during filming. So I bet cameron looked at the flower and flung it in the trash.

Big time! Biehn despised both the daisy on the helmet and the heart on the armor. The daisy went straight into the trash, but he had to live with the paint job.

I believe I've found what I am personally going with.

The original production photo:

The Frost auction image, along with the webbing I found:

"Sunbrella® Braid Binding", in a color called "Toast".
Available in both 13/16", and the smaller width of 5/8" (15.8 mm)

Oh wow. And so affordable (at least here in the states). Just wow.
I just ordered 3 yards of the 5/8" to try it out.

Mine recently arrived.
I've discovered the 5/8" is not a narrower version of the same webbing.
It is as though the wider webbing was put in a shrink ray.
It is a thinner material with tighter strands.

Not bad on the helmet, but the weave is not as pronounced as I would rather have.

And although the width is very close to the calculations taken from the production photo, in my humble opinion,
when viewing in person, it still looks a little too narrow.

Compared to a standard scrim band:

I have some of the wider width arriving today and will compare the two.

How stretchy is it? Decent elasticity or will it more or less have to be sewn to exact sizes?

Very little elasticity.
It will need to be wrapped around, marked, and sewn.

The wider 13/16".
Personal preference of course, but I think the wider, larger thread, looks a bit better.

$0.35 per Ft. , over at "sailrite.com"
I ordered 3ft and it is enough to wrap around the helmet nearly 3 times.

Zoomed out a bit, the width is shown more accurately, than the close up pic.

Same. While I appreciate the more pronounced weave, I think the thinner of the two looks better overall. Looking forward to my order and slapping it on there.

I have an account with Sunbrella, at my job. I order everything. TS826, you are really getting things done, this is amazing dude. Maybe I can help. I can get all kinds of samples, if that helps.
