The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Only problem with that, is fan pages pop-up and dissapear quite readily and its a job to keep up. Also, many fan pages fall by the wayside a lot as people get fed up with updating them and just leave them.

I was looking at one earlier today and it hadn't been updated in over a year.

Its up to you of course, but if you were going to do a list of alien pages, just stick to the big ones like AVP Galaxy. You don't want a long list of dead links you're going to have to keep updating regularly.

And that valuable input is why I made a thread on this very topic. I agree with your thoughts here. Now I have noticed a few Aliens fan pages that are regularly updated, those I would prefer to list. Given the group we can make it a policy if there are no updates in a month or two we de-list the site.

Personally, id say give them 6 months. People do put things on the back burner when real life stuff gets in the way. But then return to them when something major comes along they want to share.

Ideally, link pages should be checked at least once a year to ensure all links are curent and still working as pages, much like websites, do get taken down/go offline etc

personal fan pages i would not include. anything that is related to the AL or partners such as the Weyland-Yutani Bulletin are appropriate.

In what way is WY Bulletin a partner to AL?

Thing is, WY Bulletin is a group not a page. Anyone can post in there and it shows up in the other group members newsfeeds, so is more of a community thing, in much the same way as this forum.

Social media is one of the reasons forums like this aren't used much any more. Whilst FB 'pages' are useful to promote sites like this, I personally think its a bad idea to promote 'groups', as these are more likely to take traffic away from us.

(as an aside, I can think of other reasons not to promote WYB, but don't feel it appropriate to go into details on a public message board).

I think that would be a wise choice.

But that's just my opinion of course.

Aaaah right, that's a closed group isn't it. As opposed to a page?

Request to join inbound...

Updated. Please advise if I have that line listed incorrectly.

Also, if we are wanting to promote I will ask one question, and anyone can chime in.

Closed groups inspire and enable negative and manipulative behaviors. Open groups force everyone to be cognizant of what is said and posted. That said, Should there be a community guideline regarding open and closed groups? I do understand there are sufficient concerns about politics, AND, cosplaying has become very hostile in some sections. We need to be our absolute best and show EVERYONE we are a TEAM and we will play with any other group.

So should we standardize on open groups and if there are good valid reasons for a closed group here and there state that as our standard for our groups?

There are no wrong responses. There are no wrong reasons. Everyone's opinion is formed from their observations and understanding of their environment and that perception forms the opinion and in the case of the individual a correct statement.

A simple yes or no would have been sufficient!

My communication style does not usually involve simple questions or answers. It can but not always. Broad questions allow room for someone to explain their point of view without offending or being stand offish. More of a political approach honestly. I am just trying to keep the peace and not stir the pot.

That's a hell of statement. There are other, valid reasons for closed groups, rather than just talking people into drinking the Kool-Aid.

Apologies, I did not mean to come off so harsh.

How else would you prefer it stated?

Also bear in mind I have to do behavioral evaluations on children from time to time, and have done a little reading on the subject so I do have a little bit of slant as I do have some exposure to some real peaches and it has slanted my perception of things slightly.

imo, groups are for actual members, where as pages are open for the public. i believe having your group here on the forum is fine, because you are looking for current AL members to join.
