The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Willie, do you not own some of the NECA figures?

But to answer your question, yes, the heads pop off easily...if you heat them up a little.

I do - I meant this two pack - like, "interchangeable heads" - is that a newly added function?

Sorry, was just making sure one of our local Aliens gurus had one or some of these. :)

I don't think there's a new interchangability function per-se, you just pull-n-pop the head off as usual and replace as wanted.

Random question for anyone with relevant expertise: Would it be possible to rip/convert the in-game weapons models from Colonial Marines to a format compatible with 3D printers?

Yep, pretty easy to do. Most slicers (the programs used to turn CAD models into layers for the printers) accept the in-game model files without too much tweaking. If not then a simple file conversion solves the problem :)

I wonder...is anyone working on a third-part accessory of an egg sack for the queen? I remember reading on the sideshow forum that the queen's present legs don't allow for the pose she had in the film, but that should be easy enough to fix/mod. And if people didn't want to ruin her legs, someone could make copies, change their pose and remold/cast them.

We've got eggs, Ripley with Newt, the queen, this is screaming for an egg sack to complete the scene!

I'm making a hadleys hope diorama and part of the
Hive and had the same thought as I have a deluxe
Queen but its legs are a problem. I'll also be doing display bases that snap together and can do some custom acid burns, personalisation etc

The Vasquez/Frost wave finally hit Germany as well, and I was very happy to have finally received my set. I couldn't help but customize mine a bit though.

Vas is pretty awesome as is, despite the missing tear tattoo. No way I can add that myself... But I figured out a way to make all lose cables "connect" to something, if only tucked under her harness vest or belt. Now bring on Drake! LET'S ROCK!!!

But Frost...yeah. Room for improvement. The back grafittis, while mind puzzling and highly inaccurate, are not easily removed. So I didn't bother.
But here are some changes I did make:

- since mine (all?) was missing the patches on both arms, I replaced his upper arms with ones from a spare Windrix
- I painted the helmet band and camera body on his helmet
- I glued his holster shut, the VP70 still fits and can be removed
- I gave him a better painted flamethrower since the one he came with was a bit too plastic-y in my opinion (molded shiny plastic vs. decent, matte paint)
- I gave him a motion tracker just for the heck of it :)

Et voilá:

Oh, and the pinkish penis xeno drone is super bizarre. But hey, ALIENS stuff, so no complaints. It now resides on top of my display cabinet, mouth cock out, flailing about in the evening breeze. I like how they discreetly packed the massive pink shlong behind the legs, out of view to the shopper.

Nice upgrade!
Now you only need the sentry gun and a deck of cards. :)

Thanks Frank! :)
My creature accesory pack has been delivered to my working place and I have two weeks off, so... I will have to wait a bit to add that into my display.

I forgot: Vas' smartgun does not have the crucial bad ass ADIOS grafitti, which I think is sorely missing. So I decided to paint that one on myself. I also DID try and paint the tear tattoo, which turned out to be more like something rather than having nothing there...faded and kinda black-ish.
See for yourselves:

Good job! I plan to cut the side pocket off Frost's dump bag too. Not sure where they got that idea...

Pretty sure the side pocket on the dump bag came from the fact NECA modeled Frost's bag after the (incorrect) s6 respirator bag.
Guess it was one of those things that was repeated so often that NECA just rolled with it instead of researching the actual bag.

Oh, great catch. I will cut off that side pouch as well. I hope I can match the paint though, or maybe just repaint the whole thing afterwards.

Now that we have four of the marines, I really really want the whole team. Crowe and Ski will probably be low on NECAs list though I reckon. But Drake and Apone seem realistic, no?

If Randy at NECA is to be believed (iffy, he says 'no' to things all the time that end up happening a year or two later), he claims to have tried to contact Al Matthews, but that Al is "unreachable" and they have not been able to make contact let alone work out a deal.

He hinted in twitter a couple weeks ago that at least one more likeness was on the verge of being acquired. Most people think Drake, but I think gorman could be a sneaky play here. Probably drake though. How could it not be?!

Is it even the correct colour?

Someone on the AvP forum stated that Randy's Twitter mentioned wanting to make a Wierzbowski figure if Trevor Steedman's family is willing. Can't speak to the veracity of that claim, though.

Figured out a workaround to the too-short shoulder strap that NECA gave Frost's bag. You have to pop him apart at the waist, and the slide the strap over his mid-section like another belt:

Also, I (mostly) finished off some more custom work, bringing my total of "off-screen" Marines to three, now:

Love those off-screen marines! Very refreshing but also familiar. Are they standing in an oven?

Some detail close-ups (since the light in my oven/my camera isn't all that great):

(Ignore the tattoo; still need to find the right colour to paint over it with)
