The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Morning Marines!

(It's morning somewhere so cut me some slack- I couldn't think of a catchy opening line Image )

Over the last year my time here at the Legacy (on the old board) had steadily faded. I would post less and less in the Ready line, and pretty much hung around the OT forum. This stemmed from past events, and a new interest in other costume groups (such as the Superhero genre).

Although the thought of leaving the board entirely never entered my mind, I did see myself posting so infrequently that I believed I was fading into the sunset.

And then the new board was created! (Insert heavenly AHHHHH music cue here)

My interest was renewed! I started posting like the original post whore I once was! And with this came the inspiration for a new PIG Gunner impression: one that was closer to the Aliens Universe than its initial incarnation.

The new uniform would be based on a Smart-gunner's gear (minus the steadycam harness). Standard BDUs, M1969 flak vest, black ballcap, tactical gloves, and headset.

I decided to keep my greaves- I've always enjoyed pretending I was Hicks putting them on during the "Ready for the Drop" sequence! Image

And so my impression is done! Here are the pics!

LET'S ROCCCKKK!!!

VP70 backup weapon.

The new, lighter PIG battery pack.

And for those who have never seen the details up close:

Image

I decided to go with UA Army as it would be army equipment supplied to the Marines no?

Image

My friendly warning (the idea is a message to a sniper- I'll level the whole f---ing street you're on!) Image Image

Image

A better look at my vest.

Image

The only thing missing is the Delta (which I will probably add later- I had forgotten how much I hate sewing patches! Image ).

One thing though- where am I supposed to wear my rank now? Image Image

DIE YOU MOTHERS!!!!!!!

OOU-RAH MARINES!!!

Your rank insignia could go on the flap of one of the pockets?

ahhhh, the famous white doors ;)

Seriously though Kev i think that looks kicks ass mate. Whilst I liked your original impression I agree that this one does have more a feel of the movie about it.

You mean your not going to sew it directly onto your arm, and I thought you were hardcore

Many a costume pic has been taken infront of them. Image

Thanks guys!

About the rank- I considered putting it on the vest, but the size of the rank patch just makes it look wrong. I'm thinking of getting a small epaulette rank (like the ones used on ACU), and attaching it to the button flap on the front of the vest. Failing that, I might just wear subduded rank pins on my BDU collar. Image

Hmmmm about the rank, does that particular design of cammys have a matching cover (hat?) You could always turn the hat around and put your Cheverons on the front of it.

Looking really good Kev. :D

Too late I know as you've already sewn the patches on, but I've
just put a picture up in my gallery of the production made (but ultimately not used) Apone Flak Vest, which was on display at the NSC event last year.

http://forum.alienslegacy.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=27

Might be useful as regards to rank badge placement.

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks for the pic Andy-

Funnily enough- that's exactly where I considered placing the rank, and decided the patch was just too big and wrong looking.

I'm liking the Sulaco instead of the Delta though. Image

And yes- my Faith hath been renwed! Image Image

Thanks again everyone!

You look freakin' awesome Kev. I like the Gerber MK 2 with sheath. If you wanted to go one step closer to screen accurate, then the quilted holster with a belt tool or two otherwise you are totally checked out! Look forward to seeing you at Dcon.

Mike

Thanks Mike! I believe there is a quilted holster with a Tanio Koba VP70 waiting for me in Atlanta. Image Image

Err... nothing. It's just the shell.

I wasn't kidding when I said if I put foam in the shell, I'd end up looking like the Stay Puff Marshmellow man!

I can't wait to have this on at D-Con! USCM all the way!

Ahh, hehe. Yeah, now that I look closer I can see that it looks... pretty much EXACTLY like mine looks like right now, lol.

Unless I can find something denser, like foam rubber or that camping pad someone mentioned, I think I'm gonna end up using this half-inch high density foam I found when I was "reconning" at Joanne's Fabrics - should be just enough to cushion the SG vest and give it the sturdy appearance I want, without poofing out too much ^_^

Looks great Kev! You're officially on my team now (So I don't end up on the receiving end of the P.I.G.) ;)

I think you should keep the drop leg, but you just said you're getting a new holster at DC?

Thanks everyone!

Russ- I made that drop holster myself (out of a crappy old shoulder holster). It wouldn't take much for me to make a drop leg out of the screen accurate holster. Although the drop leg that Ripstick found is mighty fine looking too!

Adonis Sniper- (you got a fisrt name Bro? I hate calling people by their screennames- feels impersonal ). Thanks for the compliment! We had an old member (uscmcorps) that did an APC driver impression as well. It was a OD green jumpsuit (I believe aircrew and not an actual flightsuit) with an M1969 vest and one of those helmets worn by the deck crew of an aircraft carrier.
