The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Friend sent this just now.....

This morning, Sega revealed many intriquing details about their upcoming squad-based FPS based on the Aliens movie series.

Aliens: Colonial Marines, developed by Gearbox Software, will be available on Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 as well as PCs in late 2008. As far as gameplay, players are part of a United States Colonial Marine squad and must prepare to face an Aliens assault "more intense and horrific than ever before."

Driven by a story written by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, Aliens: Colonial Marines will try to retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while "leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Aliens experience."

Weapons include classic Aliens killing machines like pulse rifles and flamethrowers as well as brand-new equipment and skills all within a squad-based combat system. Click the cut for the full, official release...

SEGA REVEALS DETAILS OF UPCOMING ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES VIDEO GAME

First-Person Shooter Based on Popular Motion Picture Franchise Coming to Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3, and PC in Late 2008

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (February 21, 2008) – SEGA® of America Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today revealed details of the highly-anticipated squad-based first-person shooter video game, Aliens: Colonial Marines™. Licensed through an exclusive agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and developed by Gearbox Software, the game will be available on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC in late 2008.

In Aliens: Colonial Marines, players are part of a United States Colonial Marine squad and must prepare to face an Aliens assault more intense and horrific than ever before. Driven by a compelling and original story penned by renowned writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, Aliens: Colonial Marines will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Aliens experience.

Packing classic Aliens weaponry ranging from pulse rifles to flamethrowers as well as brand-new equipment and skills all within a squad-based combat system, players will become an elite United States Colonial Marine. Featuring claustrophobic environments, a brooding soundtrack, and a multitude of surprises and shocks, players will battle against menacing alien hordes in strikingly detailed levels that include the stark interiors of the abandoned Sulaco and unique environments created specifically for the game.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature a story driven single-player mode and an all-new four player co-op mode allowing players to share the chilling experience with three friends. In co-op mode, each player will assume the persona of a United States Colonial Marine and have a distinct role to play in the completion of every mission. Additionally, more multiplayer modes will be revealed later in the year that will complete the Aliens video game experience.

The facehuggers only have six legs.

Facehuggers are supposed to have eight legs.

It sucks. I hate it.

I think the facehugger does have eight legs, on the shot it looks like one of its legs is half hidden by another. This game is looking so cool, I am really looking forward to it. :D

I asked someone who is a community manager on the game, and he confirmed the eight legs. He said he will be arranging special hands-on events closer to release.

Paul- from the way I read the link... I think they mean the Duluth Gamers' Con Association will not be attending Dragon Con.

No way in hell D-Con has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

Unless of course they mean their own convention (which they also refer to as "D-Con") has been cancelled.

Ahh, I did a quick search for DCON and that came up. I was looking for the date when it was on (to see if there was a chance the game would be shown there). I don't know much about D-Con (or what the "D" was for), so I didn't know what I was looking for.

I'll edit my post above, so as not to panic people!

Finally!

A real and legitimate reason to go out and purchase an X-Box 360.

This is looking mighty promising -- even a little too good to be true.

Personally, I finally fell out of the gaming scene right around the time Quake III was released. I was a HUGE Quake II fan, and even have a good friend who built awesome maps at the time. Many a night I would be up at 2:00am and 3:00am playing CTF. I wasted so many hours playing it was insane.

Looks like those good times are a comin' back! :D

I would require a paramedic and a change of skivvies. I had enough issues playing AvP on my computer in the dark with the sound cranked.

Well, if you do go off and buy a 360, do yourself a favor and pick up Mass Effect while you're at it. That's some hella-good sci-fi right there.

Quick report from WonderCon in SF. Dave and I met w/ the Sega Rep. Cool guy. The Sega team is consumed with putting out a game that captures the atmosphere, the camradarie, the action of the Colonial Marines in Aliens. Dave also met with a rep from Gearbox. They are based in Dallas / Plano, Texas.

Don't we have a Dallas based Marine? Schwartz?

The game is still under development, and looks to get even better than what we've seen in Game Informer. A website will be coming.

The Sega team is well aware of the Legacy Forums and our enthusiasm for the USCM.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get some type of demo to be on display by DCon. At this time, it's unknown how much game play will be ready, but game footage should be ready. Keep your fingers crossed Marines!

It looks like the Year of the Colonial Marine is upon us!!

The Sega reps were great! Looking forward to helping to get the word out. The gearbox rep said that the programming team hasn't seen any USCM stuff in person and would love to check out the gear. Maybe you guys and gals can help them out.

I took this photo of Rex... No this wasn't in the bathroom.

If this came out on the Wii I would make a pulse rifle shell just to put the remote in it.
