PREDATOR: HUNTING GROUNDS ANNOUNCED, GAMEPLAY DETAILS REVEALED
If it bleeds, we can (probably) kill it.

BY JON RYAN Predator: Hunting Grounds, an asymmetrical multiplayer action game, has been revealed.

The announcement came as part of Sony's State of Play for May 2019 alongside a cinematic trailer for the game.

The trailer features a group of well-armed soldiers exploring what appears to be a South American jungle before panning up to reveal a predator de-cloaking itself in the trees above them.

According to the reveal announcement, "pits a fire team against the stealthy killing machine." A post on the official Playstation Blog went further into detail on gameplay elements, explaining:

One group of players will control members of an elite Fireteam who pack state-of-the-art conventional firepower, from shotguns and SMGs to sniper rifles and more. Meanwhile, one player will control the Predator: a stealthy, acrobatic killing machine bristling with exotic alien technology such as the infamous Plasmacaster. As the Fireteam attempt to carry out paramilitary missions – annihilating bad guys and recovering important items – the Predator will be closing in, using its advanced vision mode to track and ambush its prey.

Predator: Hunting Grounds is being developed by Illphonic in conjunction with 20th Century Fox, and is currently planned for a 2020 release window on PS4.

After its announcement during a Sony State of Play livestream, many were wondering when they’d get to see footage of Predator: Hunting Grounds. Since its reveal, not much else has been shown, but that will change thanks to Geoff Keighley’s gamescom Opening Night Live event. That’s right, the world premiere Predator: Hunting Grounds gameplay reveal will take place on Monday, August 19, at 2pm EDT.

You can take a look at Geoff Keighley’s tweet below:

Predator: Hunting Grounds is Illfonic’s latest project and is labeled as an asymmetrical multiplayer action game, very much in the same vein as Evolve or Friday the 13th. In it, you either play as members of an elite military squad or the Predator, with the goal of taking one another out. Depending on which side you’re on, you’ll have specific abilities and gadgets at your disposal to help you achieve victory.

It is supposed to launch sometime in 2020, although a specific release date has not been given. Perhaps Predator: Hunting Grounds’ showing during gamescom Opening Night Live might give us a more concrete release window.

Based on its marketing, it doesn’t seem like Predator: Hunting Grounds will feature anything resembling a single-player campaign mode, which might be upsetting to some. With the success of multiplayer games these days, it’s not surprising to see some companies lean away from single player adventures entirely.

Interestingly, Predator: Hunting Grounds may not be the only Predator game in the works. Shortly after the reveal of Hunting Grounds, a trophy list for Predator VR was spotted online, pointing to the existence of an entirely separate Predator game. This second Predator game has not been officially revealed yet, despite the trophy list leaking.

It's multi-player, but everyone is on the same team, sand whoever gets picked to play the Predator. I'm not very fond of multi-player games either, but it was easy enough to ignore the fact that it was other players and not AI team members. The only talking I experienced was via preset macros with phrases recorded for the game like "stay together" etc. Couldn't hear anyone else actually speaking outside of the in-game stuff. Easy enough to imagine the others were AI.
