The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This actually sums up my opinion pretty well! Lord help me when I try to tell people that it was more about 'disappointment over what might have been' than truly being terrible...

I thought it actually was pretty bad. Maybe some of that is because of Randy Pitchford's outright lies raising my expectations, but the game had glaring issues that were completely unacceptable from bad writing, bad to mediocre level design, bad to mediocre graphics, a nonsensical story, boring gameplay, etc. I don't appreciate spending $50 on a 4 out of 10 stars game that they had 5-6 years to get the details right on and the polish worked in. Sorry if I'm bitter, but gamers were literally lied to by Randy Pitchford explaining how Gearbox specifically wanted to do this project because of what huge fans they are (among other things) and the whole thing reeked of cash grab on Gearbox's part. When you consider the game was in development for what? 5 or 6 years, the end result is pathetic IMO. I don't judge a game based on how it is vs its peers or previous titles in the game's universe. I judge it on its own merits. I don't care how A:CM compares to other Alien/Aliens games. That is irrelevant. It's like saying a dead sewer roach doesn't look so bad next to a pile of crap.

I would disagree with the reviewer as well. The 1986 game Aliens for the Commodore was amazing. Especially given the tech at the time. The different stages were actually different gameplay, it was challenging, and yes you coul beat it while saving the whole team without cheating. ( I did it). But it was a great homage to the movie, didn't mess with the style and actually had a lot of tense moments. I wish we could get games like that again.
