Ouch ... looking at them side by side is pretty bad. :(

Talk about bait and switch.

What I am guessing happened here is Gearbox created the demo on PC using the latest Unreal Engine as a target for Timegate to work to, using whatever version of the Unreal Engine had been settled on for cross platform development.

I'm hoping that's the case and I want to go with that. The alternative explanation is too rotten to consider and unlikely from my measure of the people involved.

Isn't UE3 pretty ubiquitous these days?

My guess is it was made with DX11 and that was dropped. You can only turn on DX10 through the config file on PC.

That doesn't really account for all the missing custom animations and overall polish, though.

Just as an example, A:CM isn't the only game to have visuals on a high-end PC which look a lot better than on PS3/360. They all do.

Check out Bioshock Infinite.

Note: If you Google for console screenshots, they tend to be top quality PC images instead.

I used to play PC games ages ago, but as a Mac user the choices have always been extremely limited. I now use a laptop & trackpad exclusively and haven't even touched a mouse in years. When the first Playstation console came out the kind of games I liked playing weren't even available for PCs, so I gradually switched to console gaming.

If A:CM had also been made for Mac OS 10 I might've consider buying it for the sharper graphics and faster, smoother frame rate, but I honestly don't find enough of a difference between the PC and PS3 vids to make me wish I was playing the PC version instead. I find PS3's graphics are acceptable and the game runs smoothly enough for me. I've only encountered a few brief lags in a couple of instances, but not enough to spoil it for me.

I've gotten so used to using the analog controller over the years that it's like an extension of my body. Going back to using a mouse would really take some getting used to after all this time. If I live long enough maybe I'll get to play games wearing VR goggles, with interactive holographic 3D images and the works, like the future-tech gear they had in "Johnny Mnemonic". Now that would take gaming to a whole new level I could really get into.
