The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Still wonder how they explain the lack of radiation and the fact that some much is till intact when a detonation that large happened so close.

The Atmo Processor was powered by a fusion reactor, not a FISSION reactor... So in this case, it's completely plausible even WITHOUT "it's a game!" logic that there would be little to no radioactive fallout from the explosion. SCIENCE!! :D

He also said it would be a cloud of Vapor the size of Nebraska. and with the wall and rocky area i can see the blast wave being less then what we would thing. also most of the outlying area is all messed up.

Of course I suppose there is the possibility that a Fusion Reactor explodes in a manner like a Neutron Bomb destroying life but leaving structures relatively undamaged? Just a thought.

Fusion reactors as we know them today have very little potential for catastrophic explosion. They could release extremely hot plasma that would damage the local area but as soon as the containment failed the reaction would stop. Of course, we don't know if some future fusion reactor would be more powerful and cheaper but less safe ...

that would be a kool idea but i think we should bring that back up when the game comes out but for now maybe start to get squads set up. just sucks that you cant have some1 start with say a flamer, SG and rifleman. just like what ever you run for real.

Sorry to be stuck on this, but I don't see how 400 troops could be supported (or transported) by a single Conestoga.

Scroll halfway down this page to see Jan's ruling on the Sulaco's scale (based on the original models).

http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread. ... 963&page=5

This really doesn't leave a ton of room on the ship. In fact, it makes it quite a bit smaller than I'd realized (although larger than Lee thought when he wrote the Tech Manual!). So I'm curious how Gearbox will present things in the game.

Reto i dont know why its so hard to think 400 marines and their gear to be on a Conestoga class ship. i just looked at the page you posted and they say its 731m long that turns into 2193 feet long with the antenna in the front and 570m without so thats 1710 feet long. now look at height i would say its around 72m-84m tall at 216-252 feet. now look at an aircraft carrier today which is 1092 feet long or the Big E which was 1124 and at 252 feet high and we hold 3200 ships company and 1500 airwing give or take the only thing is there will be only 2 drop ships on the Conestoga which is all we see in the trailers so far and APC's would be around the same so they could hold a few maybe more then 2 in storage. as for the drop ship they maybe could mount extra seats in the cargo bay like we do with C130's and such class cargo planes now. so for a ship that size to have only 400 marines is not hard to think about and for it to be real.and for the DS u could maybe fit 52 seats in the cargo bay so thats 100 a drop if you launch both thats 4 trips all the boots on the ground which yet again you never leave a ship empty so you would leave around maybe 50 troops onboard just in case somethin happens. Sorry everyone just ranting.

Not ranting at all!
That's a pretty cool breakdown of how this could work. I think I'm stuck on the "X number of troops supported by an APC" concept, in which case dozens of APC's would be needed. But if that isn't the case then all we're talking about is room for cryotubes, sharp sticks and cornbread!

LOL yep that damn Cornbread takes up so much room. and yeah i can say 400 cryotubes would fit in that amount of room i spent 5 years stationed aboard an Aircraft Carrier there is room for so much. and yet we dont know how big the APC hanger is so there could be more then 2. the only thing that makes this suck for the marines is waiting for a ride planet side. with only 2 UH-4's onboard. and for the height i stated was a rough idea i too the 6m of height the DS has and just counted up from the lowest to the tallest part of liveable area. and a carrier is 252 feet high and thats a long way up when ou have to climb those damn ladderwells.

Interesting question. What does the Tech Manual say about max Cheyenne capacity aboard a Conestoga? Mine's boxed away at the moment. We know that in the movie, the Sulaco was deployed with a skeleton crew, so it would seem plausible that there might be more dropships on a fully loaded ship.

Standard Crew would be 90 but states that an extra 2000 can be set up in cargo hangers for transporting troops but a rough scan i couldnt fine how many drop ships in the tech manual. but a search i found on wiki states that there can be 8 UD-4's onboard here is the link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulaco_%28spaceship%29 so now we can rest assure that 400 marines on board a Conestoga class ship is doable.

Can't find the thread right now since I'm at work but Sandy aka Padsbrat did a schematic poster of a Conestoga Class ship a while back and that showed room for dozens of Dropships and APC's from what I can recall!

I'm sure PVB will be able to provide a link to the thread if it's still out there.

Finally, some Colonial Marine profiles!

Meet Lt. Jeremy Cruz
Image

I like this!, but one thing that hasn't changed that has been bugging my OCD is the colour of the name stencil on the armour haha, alot of images show them as white :( Also the "R" in his name looks funky with the break going diagonal through the R instead of vertical haha
