The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Am I the only one who is getting a bit concerned over the music? I keep expecting to hear the traditional Aliens score at least in parts but it's always something totally new. And not all that good at that...

Anyone else?

Game and film trailers often use music not actually in the final product, so just wait and see. :)

i can say i watched a trailer BTS video at one point and they said the music was to have the same feel as the film. and the music if i can remember from when i played was pretty good. but was hard to hear since it was at Cons so it was a bit loud all around. im just glad they got the sounds closer to the real ones then what the Pre-Alpha version i played at SDCC.

Agreed. As a little in-joke, it's cool. But they've said the game is canon and connected it to Hudson, so either someone at Gearbox understands Hudson's speech differently or they were really stuck for names for new weapons! ;)

They could of simply nicknamed the weapon sharp sticks but to actually take the word sharp and make it an acronym is too far for me.

And in my eyes this game won't be canon.
The only game I consider canon is the Ghostbusters game as it was written by the same people as the films.

"Hey, Hudson said 'Any time, anywhere': that means we can add a time machine to the game!" 8)

I think the attempt to flesh out what was mentioned in the movie is noble, but Hudson was clearly listing their weaponry in order of destructive capability, ending with a joke. He probably could have borrowed Frost's line about harsh langauge too if Apone hadn't told him to knock it off.
My point (bad pun) is that this Van Helsing reject doesn't fit the spirit of Hudson's speech, and really doesn't fit the style of the USCM's weaponry. It does however look like a piece of USCM weaponry, which is a nice change of pace. In the end I'm not losing much sleep over it.

I'd have to disagree with you on the look on the look of the gun there Retro, to me it just looks like a generic video game gun that looks a bit like a pulse rifle.

There's not much left to make a gun look original any more.

I think it has a District 9 look. 8)

+1 on the acronym weapon. The braggadocious speech by Hudson is a character building one. To imply he was speaking in literal technicalities undercuts it's impact/purpose. I personally will simply block that weapon from my mind and ignore it in the game

BUT, while your ghostbuster's point is a strong one, I absolutely, 100% WILL take this game as cannon! Not just because the possibility/likelihood of Hicks not being unceremoniously "off'ed" off-camera, but because I fully expect this to be a good story that focuses entirely on what I love most about Aliens. I bought the collector's edition when I realized a MARINE was in the power loader fighting an Alien WARRIOR! The Ripley/Queen angle is all fine and dandy, but give me a focus and the ground pounders and you REALLY have my attention. CANNON ALL DAY, BABY!!! :delta:

Hey, crazy idea that has been rolling around my head lately...just throwing it out there.

Anyone notice how the 4 "extra" playable characters were never truly seen "dead"?

Hicks - Death from Alien 3 hopefully going to be undone and explained
Apone - Cacooned...but never declared dead. Quite the opposite. "Sarge and Dietrich aint dead..."
Drake - Splashed w/ acid that surely would/should have killed him, but no lifeless body nor flat-lined monitor actually shown.
Hudson - Dragged down the hole: that's all we know.

You dont suppose...if they could "save" Hicks, that maaaaaaybe these guys are ballsy enough to save a couple more???

(I know, the explosion is a whole other thing. Just throwing crazy ideas around)

Acronym weapon i dont know why everyone is getting upset about. i like the weapon and it does have the USCM feel to it. Do you all ever stop to think that we use Acronym's for everything. and i cant wait to play this. i was running on AvP 2010 version last night trying to get the online Acheivments and yeah thats all i can say lol it was so stiff after playing this.

My point was the twisting of Hudson's words into a literal 'thing' implies he was doing less "comical BSing" and more "reading off a list". In my opinion, that detracts from Hudson's rant.

But my gripe aside, I do understand the game needs new and interesting things to introduce, and I can appreciate that they were inspired by source material (rather than just making things up). So I am certainly not "upset" about. I have no gripe with its look, or even its function. I just prefer to ignore it in favor of preserving the purity of one of my favorite scenes.

I honestly don't think it's gearbox's intention to shoehorn the s.h.a.r.p into Hudsons line from the movie and make it an actual canon reference. Rather the other way around, Hudson is still talking about literal sharp sticks in the movie, this is a pre-order bonus item and much more of a easter egg/novelty thing referencing the classic line from the movie. Most people won't get the gun in their copy of the game at all.

Will the s.h.a.r.p even be in the campaign, or will it be multiplayer only? Being a pre-order bonus I'd guess multiplayer, in which case maybe not considered part of the canon :?.
