The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It's supposed to be a "squad-based, single-player action game." And from 3/4 top down screenshots I've found, it makes me think of Starcraft.

Heinlein wrote starship troopers, inspired starcraft, warhammer, alien/aliens.

So saying starcraftesque, not an inaccuracy at all honestly...

So long as they have the original weapons in the game and don’t go too bad with stupid damned exaggerated variations of fantasy super weapons that look utterly rubbish and out of place I’ll be happy. I mean they’d be able to do variations of some of the stuff seen in the weapons racks of the dropship and the SULACO and make a decent game…

Best as I can tell from the trailer ... the SG, helmet & armour, shoulder lamps, even the marine's watch (I think), all look true to the movie props. (+ some new stuff, of course).

Can't wait!

Only thing I saw different on the sg was the motion tracker screen mounted between the motorcycle brackets.

Part of that is probably due to the fact that folks here and elsewhere have made stunningly accurate 3d files that could be imported into the game.

True, and the SG looks a little smaller in front (everything forward of the chamber), which oddly, doesn't upset me at all.

I can see a Comms Marine backpack build in my future at some point in 2023 ... :)

loving the story so far. very atmospheric. I lost my entire squad on the first mission. Not sure if it was down to lack of skill or lack of tactics or both.

I'm a little concerned about infinite respawn points and the hunted mechanic thst forces stealth at all times. It makes you averse to actually using the marines to fight. Not far enough in to get a good feel for it yet but i'm hopeful.

I've only played until the beginning of the second mission/deployment, and it's just so much fun! The right ratio of creepiness to action. I still haven't gotten used to all the different points/materials/stats you have to balance, that is a factor I'm not used to, but it certainly has a lot of promise and I'm looking forward to whenever I find the time to play that game a bit more.
BTW, I'm playing on PC (I grew up with the Dune 2 and the first C&C games), and I can't imagine playing this on PS5 or something. Isn't this game a chore to play without a mouse?

Cheers!
Roman

Had some quality time with the game now. Really enjoying it. Fantastic world building and absolutely fits with the movies, Alien isolation, and the expanded universe from the books and comics.

The story is great, loving it. haven't finished the game yet so hopefully it continues to be strong.

Gameplay is difficult and the atmosphere is tense. The interactions on the Otago (base of operations) are vey reminisent of the latest XCOM games squad, promotions and training lead to additional skills for the marines. There is a limited amount of research for better equipment.

Weapons are in my oppinion a bit disappointing. They look fantastic in game but say you have levelled up your marine to be able to use a smartgun, in game it doesn't feel any different to a standard marine with PR, nor do the higher tier guns. The only exception to this is the sentry guns, they are awesome and with a couple of them covering a hallway you feel a lot safer.

The aliens are great, genuinely challenging and even the drones (which make up the majority of enemies) are tough and hard to deal with. I mentioned that i'm not a fan of the "hunted" mechanic where you dispatch a single alien and then the hive automatically dispatch more aliens to find you. I still hate this mechanic but i suppose it works to ratchet up the tension.

All in all it's worth a punt in my oppinion

one major downside is that it's buggy as hell. I keep having to reload and lose loads of progress due to events not triggering or marines getting stuck etc. annoying
