The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Is there a camo patterned BDU that is a decent substitute for MAAs?

There's plenty that look OK, and to be honest, nobody who's not a massive fan is likely to notice anyway!
Desert camo patterns, IMHO, look pretty decent, and are generally light enough to be comfy at cons, under the armour.

There was one (Bosnian 3-colour desert, IIRC) that looked especially reasonable, but I've never found a single thing in that scheme for sale!!

Multi Cam gets used by a number of UACM folks up here (self included ;))

Multicam is the accepted secondary BDU of the UACM.

No problem, I use a set of the ACU design (arm pockets with velcro, slanted chest pockets, lower leg pocket) in ripstop fabric made by Propper. I've seen stuff made by Atlanco/Tru-Spec in a couple shops in Toronto but I don't think they match in quality.

Propper has a very good uniform, but 5.11 has one that is goddamn Tonka tough.

Went to Propper site and 5.11 site but I was hoping to find something local so I could try them on, below is what my local army supply store has. Thoughts?

And this is what they have for multi cam TRU a bit more expensive the the Propper Multi cam but looks closer to what's in the wikisite posted above

My opinion is that you can't go wrong with any of the stuff shown so far. :)

However there are knockoffs galore that certain places will sell at about the same price as the real thing (example: the sketchy AAA Surplus place at Kensington Market) so look for the Multicam tags in and outside the items. There is a company called "Parklands Canada" that makes their product in Pakistan and I've seen their stuff sold at a higher price than it's comparably worth.

I know on my set there's a small tag on the side of the thigh pocket of the pants and on side of one of the pockets on the jacket - in addition to the tags on the inside.

Been there. Didn't like the atmosphere. They're definitely very "used car salesman" like. Being a salesman is one thing, but I shouldn't feel like I "have to buy something if I want to leave".

Yes that's exactly how I feel but wasn't able to articulate until now :P

But there are other shops in the area that sell the rel deal for much cheaper ;)

Thanks again guys. I'm hoping to hit the shop tomorrow, then it's just to patiently wait until my armor and pulse rifle kits arrive. Then it's all about figuring out how to put it all together.

Strongly recommend you go with the Mandarin collar (second shirt you posted), not the regular collar.

Picked up a pair of Propper BDUs last weekend. It was tough to match up the die patterns, I'm going to alter the collar into a madarin style. The TRUs were of higher quality but I didn't like the multi cam in person. My armor kit also arrived two days ago so now find some time to put it together.

Reminds me of new Italian Vegatato camo mixed with the older Swiss stuff... the look is kinda growing on me ;)

I looked up the new ATACS stuff coming this Spring by Propper, I really like that stuff and it sorta reminds me of the rebel's camo on Endor... but I don't see it being used for my UACM gear.

http://a-tacs.com/ scroll down for some pics of their stuff ;)

Supposedly there will be variants of the A-Tacs camo in the future. A woodland variant too.

I'm giving serious consideration to the new A-TACS stuff, when I start feeling better I'm gonna scoot over and see buddy of mine who has the hat, pants and jacket in the ACU type pockets/ripstop.

I know it's not the approved alternate for the uniform but this stuff looks too damn good to me.

Although I fully support the use of different uniforms, Multicam is currently the official UACM camouflage. Doesn't hurt to have more that one uniform at a long con. Avoids the putrid stink!
