The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

OK, after Kevin's fun at the border, what are the REAL weapons rules??

Don't bring anything gunlike. Period. No PRs, shotguns, VP70s etc.

Canada has a complete ban on replica weapons and airsoft guns. It even says on a Customs Canada website that if you own a replica gun in Canada and you bring it outside the Canadian border, you will not be allowed to bring it back in.

You might be able to get away with a Gerber in a sheath, or an M240 flamethrower (something Mike brings with him when flying down to D-Con). A flamethrower is far enough removed from looking like a real gun to be considered a replica.

Nerf guns are iffy because you're not supposed to alter the factory made colours. So if you have a Longshot painted black and OD, they might frown on it (but I really have no concrete info on that).

And I wouldn't bring anything rocket-launcher like either... just in case.

We'd have to do an armoury for you guys just like the UK folk coming to D-Con.

Kevin

My last Dcon in 08, I took down my resin Gerber Mk2, M240 Flame Unit AND my "Domasized" VP70. No probs each way. Just tell them I'm going to a sci-fi convention and the border dudes think I like a freakin' nerd, roll their eyes back and let me go thru. "Why do you need 2 large bags for 4 days? Oh, it's my costume from the movie, Aliens. Wanna see? No Sir, just go thru ~"mutters under breath.....geek~

Or you might end up getting a Customs officer who's having a bad day and decides he wants to go through all your stuff with a microscope, and guess what? Something like the VP70 isn't allowed in Canada.

Okay time for the anal probe now Sir.

But do whatever you want- it's what I did for seven years going to DC until that one time.

That's cause you live in paranoia Ontario, Kevin. I always get raked over the coals when I'm in that evil province. If they want a plastic pistol, they can keep it. If I ever get in shit with customs again, I bet a quick background check will clear me of their chickenshit games. With the amount of things I've done, places I've been & past military service, a simple hollow plastic pistol will be quickly tossed away. These piece of shit customs idiots are train to ID weapons from what they see on TV or play on Xbox, PS3, etc. The freakin' wanna-be customs puke who saw my M41A Airsoft on the X-Ray machine thought it was an AK47 (his exact words). Once the real cops showed up, I explained it fires plastic round pellets you can buy in Canadian Tire (automotive store). Also explained they shoot at a velocity around 250 ft per sec, I had no pellets, had no battery, it was unloaded and does not require a Possession Acquisition License. I had receipts from the con, hotel room so I wasn't worried. Just be calm, cool, collective, have your paperwork in order, don't lie/bend the truth and being clean cut, you will get thru with your precious props.

Saying all that, I do not take Airsoft across country borders, just provincial borders. My Airsoft PR will be in Polaris. I will continue to take my resin M240 Flame Unit, VP70 pistol and Gerber Mk2 props to any and all US conventions.

Mike

I'll bring my PR, NERF Longshot and Vulcan as well as a VP70 and figure out who needs to use what from there.

FWIW there's a new NERF coming out called the Stampede, odds are I'll be grabbing that one and painting it up PR style the my other two N Strike NERFs to add to the pot.

Just got the heads up, Adam Baldwin (notably from Firefly/Serenity as Jayne Cobb and Full Metal Jacket as Animal Mother) has been added to the guest list.

So we'll have both Adam Baldwin and A-Dom-Baldwin attending, double bonus ;)

I had a chat with some folks from Polaris this weekend and although the subject of having Aliens guests didn't seem to spark a lot of interest they are curious to know what fans are interested in seeing so maybe if we bug them a lot about it they might listen.

That being said maybe Spat and his fellows over at Comic Con might see fit to help us out on that front if they are returning to Toronto next year?

If anyone would like to email their interest to have an Aliens-themed guest:

guests(at)tcon.ca

I would recommend asking for Daniel Kash or William Hope

email sent, it looks something like this:

" Hello

I am a member of the Aliens Legacy forums and also an active member of the Colonial Marines costuming group.

I would appreciate it if you would try and get some guests from the movie, perhaps Daniel Kash or William Hope.

If you do I can guarantee you my presence at the convention

Martin "

Dear friends at Polaris,

As promised, I will be returning to perform the Toronto Colony Sweep at Polaris in 2011. I have made an open invitation to Colonial Marines from the USA and UK as well.

I would like to recommend for your consideration finding an Aliens-related guest in 2011. James Cameron’s Aliens celebrates it’s 25th as well as yours. Two cast members are Canadian, William Hope (Lt Gorman) and Daniel Kash (Pte Spunkmeyer). This would be a silver opportunity to have them on your stage.

If you wish, I can provide you the contact information of many of the Alien cast and crew; please let me know if you are interested.

Best regards,

Dom Baldwin

Looking for volunteers to chip in a few bucks for our fan table at Polaris. Tables are $40 each. Depending on how much I collect, I will get more than one table. Let's face it... more tables, more displays.

Donations should be given in Canadian funds to cplbaldwin(at)hotmail.com

ssgt Tex $10

Hi everyone,
I'm Nicholas Morton, the guy that SSgt Burton met at the last Polaris who was in the Nostromo costume. I was just wondering if I would be able to join you at the Polaris 2011 if I was to wear my Nostromo costume (I plan on making one of the button-up shirts with the piping as well). If not, and you would rather just have Marines, that is fine as well. Thanks!
