The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

He's in Vancouver right?

Not to discourage you (as it is always a pleasure to have more members come out), but the distance from Toronto to Vancouver is almost as far as Toronto to London England. So it would be two trips you'd be preparing for.

Just you know... in case you were wondering.

Ha ha... yea, thanks for pointing that out, it's a very good point. I've done the Vanc–Toronto trip before so I know what to expect – have some folks near Toronto as well so I would have to make a holiday of it, 2/3 weeks or so. Canada is so damn BIG! But I'd love to see more of it. The Northern Territories have some of the best scenery I've ever seen.

I'm 99% packed, there's always something last minute :P

Does anyone need any gear brought down? I've got extra transport space and plenty of NERF to go around ;)

Are there a couple of spares for Rob and Lottie (if she needs one)?

Had a great time this weekend, it was great fun to spend some time with Rob and Lottie and get to know them a little. Thanks guys for coming up to see us, I'll most definitely try to return the favour next year.

As usual great laughs and some cunning planning for costume ideas took place :P (yes I'm looking at you Scott)

It was nice to get back to a full weekend of convention where I didn't have to work on it, just enjoy it completely.

I hope to see you all sooner than later at another con :)

Oh and Dom, you sir are an awesome dance floor Shark :P it kills me that I didn't have my camera with me :(

I AM an awesome shark! It was fantastic to see you all in uniform to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our beloved film. Thanks to everyone for participating. The Macdonald and Terrapin crew showed Toronto how it's done!

T'was a great weekend to get the geek on. When I get home or have a more reliable connection I'll post the sweep video. :D

Thanks to all for a great time :)

Well I had an absolute BLAST this year!

The "theme" of the year was Star Trek... so yeah- right up my alley!

Unfortunately while I did bring my camera, I absolutely loath carrying it around and didn't take any pics (so I'm hoping someone will post their's soon  ).

And yeah- Dom makes a great dance shark! I wish I had my camera in hand for that one!

Having Lottie and Rob come up made the con all that more special; it felt like a true reunion with our American cousins!

So... You know how you spend hundreds of dollars and hours of research on a costume, only to be outshined by "that guy" in a simple Rubies costume?

Well this year I was "that guy."

A week before the convention I decided to do a last minute costume- Kirk fom Amok Time:

Image

So I took a cheap Rubies captain's tunic and cut a hole across the chest. I didn't have a clue where to get some fake blood in the middle of the summer (it would be everywhere in October), so I had a brainstorm- I bought some red cake gel icing!

It worked perfectly! The "blood" looked good, but didn't look too gruesome, and had that "cheesy fake 60s blood" look.

I also made myself a quick and dirty "lirpa" weapon-

Image

This was easily the most simple costume I've come up with (and cost maybe $20 tops in materials)! It was a big hit! As soon as I got on the convention floor, people were pointing and saying, "That's awesome!" Some of them even started singing the Amok Time fight music-

Duh DA DAAA DAAA DAAA DAAA daaa duh DA daaa duh!

I actually couldn't believe how much attention this got- even more than my WOK uniform. :?

Again waiting for someone to post the pics.

The sweep went well even though there were only a handful of us. Scott also had a "surprise ending" for the sweep this year! I won't give it away until the vid gets posted (yeah I'm being a big tease with this post).

The panel also went well- there was a lot of concern that we wouldn't be able to fill an hour just chatting ourselves without any audience interaction (we felt that if they didn't ask any questions we would be tongue tied). However this didn't happen and afterwards we figured we could have kept going on and on if we wanted to!

(And even though I was trepidacious about being a panelist, I'm glad I sat on the panel and not in the audience like I had initially planned.)

All in all a great weekend!

Kevin

There are some convention pictures here, just go pass the hundred or so of The Falls. I had a blast with everyone.
