The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That had to be the coolest thing I have ever done in my life. I know that for those of you who are in the military it might seem quite mundane but for a guy like me who never had a chance in hell, it is literally a dream come true.

I already had a strong respect for the military life but this past week has helped me put into perspective just how much of a workload it is.

WOW is pretty much the only word I can muster about it all.

Good for you I say, Martin.
Good for you!!!

Hell, I've been involved in several different units over the years and I never got the chance to drive a single thing. Same goes for quite a few service personnel. It's a bit of a specialty unless you work in a mechanised unit/the motorpool. I'm insanely jealous, dude :D

The big grin you have says it all, really!!

You bet your BDU's it was :D

Funny thing is Jon, the pro who was teaching me how to operate the tanks, is a big Aliens Fan. So when I told him about our little group here, we started quoting the movie all the time :P

Nothing like a guy in the back of the M60 screaming real loud "Yeah but it's a dry heat" to take the edge off the stress :D

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Jon pop up on these boards at some point, he would certainly fit in perfectly with the people here, very generous and good humoured gentleman.

He and everyone else involved in the filming of that show made last week the best in my life, without a doubt.

LOL I'm not certain I get the PIG joke.

As for the loading I was looking at the gun assembly inside and the first thing made evident to me was how friggin dangerous for your fingers that contraption is.

It is. I gunned Leopard C1 in '82-83 and it was common for the senior NCO's to have missing fingers from the 105 mm. My SSM (Squadron Sargent Major) had half his right thumb missing, but the surgeon made the stump look like a penis. He had lots of fun with that.
By the way, my humble opinion is all tanks are death traps. (Sorry Dom)

Great to see you had fun on the M60

Mike

WOW

See that's why I don't like crossing the border, 4 times out of 5 I get that sort of treatment. Nothing to THAT extent though, not since that trip down to Boston in the early 90's :(.

Man I'm so sorry for you :(

Imagine what they would do if I decided to cross the border with the power loader and the (soon to be built) APC :(

sheeesh.

The official web page for the show is up on Discovery : http://www.discoverychannel.ca/showpage.aspx?sid=24790

I was supposed to be on episode 11 but for some weird tv reasons I wound up being on the show opener.

I have no clue how it turned out but I hope it will be as fun to watch as it was to film :)

Okay I'm stupid... When I first read the article I must have skimmed over that this was being done for a tv show.

So this just upped the cool factor by about a 1000!

So how did you end up getting picked for this show Mart?

Very simply, I saw their promo casting call and just sent in my application, one interview and a slew of documents signing my soul away later I was sitting in the M60 ;)

One last reminder...

This coming Wednesday at 20:00hrs on the Discovery Chanel will be the premiere of "I Could Do That" where you can see the M60 in pretty cool action. and me sitting behind the T-bar ;)

Just before that, Daily Planet will air an interview they did on our shoot location to promo the show. That will be sometime between 19:00hrs and 20:00hrs.

For those who can't catch the show on tv the Discovery.ca website will have the episode on for streaming one week after the original air date. Hopefully international viewers will be able to see it also, if not then maybe some alternate options can be figured out.

Hope the show will be to your satisfaction, I certainly enjoyed myself participating in it :)

Martin
