The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

There are two events.
One, the colony sweep, the other the droid hunt. Unrelated.

It's just a mix up- if you click on the "Imperial Sweep" our Colony Sweep information comes up.

I honestly think that it should be changed to Imperial Droid Hunt to avoid confusion. I'll contact them about it.

So, I 've been told to check the board more often. ;)

It occurs to me that the sweep this year still needs a proper ending..
It would be a shame since we are listed officially, to just let it peter out.

If I unstood correctly, this year there is xenomorph. So, are we going to have a funny ending? Or find something worse than an Alien? A Revenue Canada Tax Audit?

 I'd laugh harder if I didn't get dinged for a four figure number in an 'adjustment' from my 2007 return.

Planning is good, also do we want some recon of the hotel? Photos of the space, etc to pre-plan? I can be in the area sometime next week and it shouldn't be any trouble to take a trip up there and get some info.

Also I have the makings for a Yip-Yip Alien (those guys from Sesame Street, yup yup yup uhuh, cat... meow... yeah you know the ones) that I almost made for last year's con and if need be I could whip it together and likely have a candidate to wear it should we want to do something funny.

We don't have a xenomorph this year, so yes, we need a target. Kevin has volunteerd to play the role of an injured pilot... Any ideas to elaborate on this Kevin?

My plans for Polaris have been up in the air for the last month. I know it is getting close being only two weeks away- I'm actually still unsure if I will attend. I've been progressing well with my shoulder injury however I had more or less set Dragon Con as my one and only goal for conventions this year.

Should I go- and unfortunately I probably won't be able to say until the week of the Con- the idea of me being a downed DS pilot is pretty basic.

You guys would go through the sweep and I would be at the end where you would normally encounter the xenos. You guys set up a perimeter, check me out (figure I would have something like a twisted ankle) and lead me out of the area.

At first I pictured someone carrying me out in a fireman's carry but thought it might not be the best idea for a couple of reasons. One- with people wearing armour it would not be feasable to have someone across their shoulders and two- with my very real shoulder injury it might be prudent not to take any chances of man-handling me.

So I figured someone would lead me out with me having one arm over their shoulder and limping/hustling away.

It's still kind of anti-climatic when compared to a showdown with the Xenos, but beats standing around saying "false alarm- the area is secure".

However like I said- there is still a possibility I might not be at Polaris. But you guys could still do the downed pilot scenario without me maybe?

Kevin

Ok, Kevin, sorry to hear about your injury and that you might miss Polaris.

Here is my suggestion for the scenario then, that gives us the needed flexibility that you require.

We start the sweep as a standard colony sweep.
Somewhere we find a reason to remove the magazines. Out of sight of the officer, the troops reload their rifles.

We then move on.
During the sweep we receive a mission change. Instead of seek and destroy, it's going to be extract and locate. Now we could either be hunting for a downed Pilot ( Kevin) or if you ( Kevin) can't make it, we have to locate a scientist. HMMM, can we get a stretcher?

If we had the scientist we could end with a chest burster. Even with the Pilot we could find him with a face hugger!

Oh yeah, this can work.
I have to think this through for more details. I'll keep posting as I think of more stuff.

Yes, ask the masquerade people nicely :) Even better I can ask my contacts about that in the next little bit.

Excellent Sid, well find out quickly cuz I gotta know.

Here is the proposal for the sweep very briefly.

Pvt Warmblood - Phil
Pvt Hickup - Scott

Stretcher ( source: Sid or E-U)
Plush face hugger ( source: Dom or other)
Drop sheet ( source : E-U)
WY stickers ( source: Chantal)

Did I get everybody who wants to participate?
Please copy the text when you ad your suggestions. That way it's easier to read.

Porkchop, I just want to say that I love the way you think ;)

Didn't I heard something about having Elmo for a xenomorph substitute.

Pvt Hickup ??

How about simply ending the sweep with someone saying "CLEAR"
or something like that.
Or are all sweeps supposed to have a big ending ?
I have always felt a couple things about sweeps.
1 having EVERYONE walk through as a test run really advertises what we are up to. So limit practices just to squad leaders.
2 The end always seems somewhat lackluster.
I know its easy to criticize...sorry

Tentative timings: UACM Sweep 15H00, 501st Droid Hunt 17H00.

Sebastien will be there as Weyland Yutain tech and will have his chest burster rig. We can have him run interference, try to walk away with facehugger and then drop and do the bacon dance.... and boom facehugger

Oh by the way Sharp, The way the Droid Hunt works, it doesn't really matter if the two events overlap, the only thing is that some of the 501st in UACM uniform just won't be able to apprehend any Droids during the sweep.

Once they change back in 501st Uniform, they're all peachy

Okay, once little Johnny has popped the Marines want to kill it.
The AI( Chantal) will prevent that citing Weyland Protocol and use a robot arm to collect the chest burster. I am almost thinking of having her making like Ash from the first movie.
Once the chestburster comes out, is he removable, Sebas?

Damn, just won't be the same without you, Kevin

Well, we may have to go with the other variant then.
Once we find Seb with the face hugger, we put him on a stretcher with loose wrap.
Then he brings out the chest burster.
The Synthetic grabs the chestburster with either the robot arm or the hand and tranquilizes it with a needle.
If the chestburster is removable then it gets place in a containment box.
If the chest buster is not removable then Seb and the chestburster get rewrappped and we get out of there.
Chantal will indicate that we have only very little time to get to the drop ship which is why we must hurry. We walk quickly away. This effectively ends the presentation.

It may not be the dramatic ending that everyone is looking for, but it is a definite ending.

Ahh damn Kevin, sorry see that :( I will aim to take plenty of video so you can at least experience it vicariously.

Also I have confirmation from Scott aka Jaws that we have the stretcher available to us that the folks at the masquerade use :)

I forwarded the confirmation email to Sgt. Beaudoin.
