The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Dom could you do me a favour? Would you please switch the positions of my ACLS and Adverse Conditions ribbons?

I feel since the ACLS is my only real ribbon it should take precedence.

Yeah, that was a mistake sorry... Real-world decorations always take precedence.

Ummm, yes? This refers to what we do at DCon? Or, is this other cons as USCM? Got me confused...

My ribbons arrived today. :)

Here they are, with the Pentax lens for scale:

Here's the box they were sent in:

The box was full of bubble-wrap, with a small catalogue laying along one side and the ribbons in the middle of the wrap.

They certainly make sure the items arrive safely. :D

Oh Rex, this is why I love you... The Minor Colony sweep is awarded to a marine in uniform who goes to a con in a small city or town or 38000 citizens or less. :) You get all the BIG BOY ribbons, Rexie. 8)

Just the clutches for now, with two spare backs, just in case I lose one. :)

Yeah they send a catalogue with every order.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did shipping set you back for those two ribbons Steve?

International shipping is pretty hefty because they send the item Global Priority- which is fast (arrives in 5 days for me in Canada) but is EXPENSIVE!

I was going to suggest that one member of each branch (UACM, UKCM) make a group purchase and then distribute the ribbons once they arrive abroad. Might save the individual members some cash.

I myself have received two orders from Paradestore- they both arrived in the exact same size box... the total shipping for both orders cost $39! :(

I also have two catalogues now if anyone wants one.

That's a good idea Kev. The only forseeable problem is that the total order value will make it more likely to incur import charges. I found this with the name tape order I did for everyone. Individually the price is low enough to go straight through but because I had so many I ended up with a nice customs charge to pay for.

Cheers

Darren

They e-mailed me straight after ordering them to offer two shipping rates;

$19.00 to ship Priority Mail Int’l which should take about 6 to 10 days or First Class Mail Int’l at a cost of $13.40 with no exact arrival estimate.

I chose $19. :)

They never emailed me about shipping choices the (insert bad word here)...

I'm gonna have to ask about lower shipping rates.

Is it appropriate to wear ribbons on BDUs, or should they be saved for dress blues and Gorman-style OD uniforms?

Actually, it's not acceptable in Canada, and I'm pretty sure the same is for the USA & the UK... but as far as I'm concerned, I'm sure that if the majority of us agree on it, you can wear them on your BDUs so long as you're not wearing armour over them. Personally, I think it's a good idea.

Any other thoughts?

Yeah we never wore them with the BDU's here in the US.

But saying that I think it will set us apart for the normal if we do and will add a bit of color. I am in favor of wearing with the BDU.

I think it would be acceptable so long as you are treating your BDUs as if they were a service uniform. In other words your not wearing your BDUs like they are a hoodie and jeans.

Chris was actually wearing his Bronze Star pin (not the ribbon but the small enamel lapel pin) on his BDUs last D-Con.

Agreed... so long as the member treats and comports himself and his appearance well and with dignity... I'm all for it.... but once in armour... all bets are off!

Since we will be doing Baltimore a couple of times a year, can we get the black and gold bar for our ribbon? it's Lord Baltimore's colors.

Thanks

I don't have a problem assigning Black / Gold to Baltimore... but Farpoint's website says it's located in Timonium, MD... so where exactly was it?

it's like 5-10 minutes outside of the city,
Baltimore is inside the beltway, Timonium is outside the beltway, the post office calls it Timonium but it's actually in Hunt Valley

You can use Timonium, that's fine with us, I'm not sure of the "guidlines"

I just figured more people know Baltimore
