The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Updated the list once again!

Do we know anymore info? Are we arranging any special plans? A meeting time/place, lunch/dinner, are we all sticking together or going our own ways? I've never done anything like this before haha!

Well, I just got tracking info from a Calgary local who is shipping me a Saturday pass. Assuming all is on the up and up, I will be there Saturday and Sunday (plus, of course the EXPOsed event).

As for special plans, I am up for whatever. I have also never done an event this big before and have never been to Calgary, so I am not sure I'm the guy to try and make the actual plans, but I'm certainly a willing follower. Breakfasts, lunches, dinners, post-event bar crawl; whatever works. Just say when and where and I'll likely be there.

I'll throw in my two bits here... I think once they post the schedules on the Calgary Expo site, we will get a better idea of how to plan our meet up etc... As for a colony sweep, I'm not sure if there will be enough time. Just for autographs alone, the line ups will be a little nutty. My wife will be keeping a constant eye on any updates from the Expo site, since I don't have much time during the work day. If I hear anything, I will post it.
Let's just hope they give us enough time to work this out.
Just going from past experience with the 4 or so times my wife and I have attended the cowtown expo, it hasn't always gone smoothly. The last one really left a bad taste in our mouths. People almost rioted!
Let's keep our fingers crossed for a good show!

So what are the burning questions that only the cast of Aliens can answer?

Off the top of my head I know these have come up recently:

"Was Bill Paxton in Batman?"
"What is the belt tool supposed to be?"
"What magazine did Hicks' pinup come from?" (how's that for random??)

Others? I know this is insanely fanboyish, but at least the first one would be worth asking, right??

My "Saturday Pass" arrived yesterday. Unless this ticket turns out to be a cleverly printed forgery, then it is probably safe to update my status on the big board to Saturday, EXPOsed, and Sunday.

I have also 100% decided to check a bag so I will be bringing my armor. No weapons and limited accessories, but armor is the main outfit for the weekend. I'll have my Service Cs as well (probably the Exposed event).

I never even thought about that last one! But I am quite sure the wifey would draw a hard line at me pursuing some screen accurate vintage porn!

Well folks, the schedule has finally been posted as well as the photo op list & prices. If you scroll down the page... Ricco Ross will be attending as well! That was a shock to see, since he wasn't listed before! https://epicphotoops.ca/calgary-expo/2014/?sort=

$460 for a cast photo is a little too steep for an 8x10, but I will definitely get a pic with Mark & Jenette, Michael & Sigourney. The others, I will nab autographs (which usually cost the same as a photo op).
This is going to take some serious planning and coin!

Whooooowee. That is a bit steep. But wow. Hey, so how do the group photos work? In the samples they show several examples with multiple people in the pic. Is the price "per person involved" or is the price "per pic taken". Surely the Orian slave girls with Shatner didn't pay $50 each to have to share the spotlight, did they? You'd think you would want your own special moment if paying full price.

Could we do an AL with cast group shot where we (any AL members interested) could split the costs of the $460 and do one single picture with all the AL members in attendance with the cast?

Just an idea.

EDIT: I see it now. Up to 3 other people. So in theory we could split it 4 ways if 3 other people wanted a slice of the action. $115 each still aint cheap, but its getting manageable if you don't mind sharing the spotlight!

I wonder how much the autographs are on top of that?

Considering the cost of individual photo ops it's probably worth it if you don't have a pic with any of them already.

Sigourney on her own is $175!! Don't think I could bring myself to pay that much just for a photo though.

Seems worth it to me, especially around here where she doesn't come around very often. We'll be getting a photo with just her too :)

From the site:

Keep these few things in mind when purchasing photo ops:

1. You must have a valid Calgary Expo pass in order to participate in photo ops.

2. Please show up on time or up to 15 minutes before your photo op. Refunds will not be available for those who miss their photo op due to tardiness.

3. Photo Ops are located in the lower level of the Big 4 building.

4. There will be 5 photo op booths this year. Those who purchase multiple photo ops at the same time run the risk of missing one or more photo ops. Similar to programming, you may have to choose between two or more panels or photo ops happening at the same time.

5. Refunds will not be made available to people who choose to purchase multiple photo ops that are scheduled to happen at the same time and then end up missing one or more.

6. Refunds/exchanges are available in the event of a guest cancellation.

7. Photo ops sales will be available on site in the Grandstand and in the lower level Big 4 Building. However, sales are capped so pre-purchasing online will guarantee you your photo op (provided you show up on time or up to 15 minutes prior).

8. Refunds are available up to 7 days before the Calgary Expo. Exchanges are available up to the Calgary Expo, and during the weekened provided that the photo op session has not started yet. Exchanges requested after the session has started will not be processed.

9. Personal cameras, autographs, and gifts are not allowed in the photo op area.

10. You are allowed up to 3 additional people plus yourself (four people in total, not including the Media Guest) with you in the photo op.

It is cheap when you're getting a photo with 9 stars of the film, which works out at $12.77 each.

On your own it's $51 per star, which isn't bad considering how many stars they managed to get to attend, so there's a wide choice. :)

Great! I need to run some actual #s here to see what is in my budget, but as of now, I am a "medium 'yes'" for this plan. I'd love if a 4th can jump in an get us into that $120 range each (with the digital copy addition of course, so we can actually all get one). I of course need to see how my finances are when the big day arrives and of course budget the costs away from what I planned for autographs.

1 GBP = 1.83331 CAD, so that $12.77 CAD works out at about £7, so still very good.

I just read that autographs are usually loosely based on Photo Op prices... This is gonna add up! hahaha

FYI, Here's a list of the individual Photo Op prices as a general idea for autographs:

Bill Paxton: $60
Carrie Henn: $40
Jenette Goldstein: $40
Lance Henriksen: $50
Mark Rolston: $40
Michael Biehn: $40
Paul Reiser: $40
Ricco Ross: $40
Sigourney Weaver: $175

For those that I've got photos from, including the exchange rate, that's about average for photos.

When we had the 25th anniversary at the NSC, that was an expensive but fun weekend, hope yours is the same. :D

So we are roughly 10 days away!

Any plans yet?

Is there a likely day/time for presentations or are we just winging it?

We should schedule a few group shots! I talked with Brett M. briefly and he says he plans to be at the convention and will likely wear his Smartgun on Sunday :)

I also thought of a question for Ricco Ross as well although I am sure he has been asked before... "What's [his] definition of Arcturian Poontang?" Hahaha!! It's going to be so awkward coming from lil ol' me!! I hope I don't chicken out!

Well here is my end.
This is just me, but I plan on hitting the below schedule. If anyone wants to meet for these events and roll as a group, or catch up between them its all good. Between events I really only planned to hunt for (wait in line for) autographs so I am flexible.

Saturday
1:15pm – Spotlight on Bruce Campbell *GRRRR.... He overlaps with Biehn. The schedule creators clearly hate me!!!!!!
1:45pm – Spotlight on Michael Biehn
2:45pm – Spotlight on Paul Riser
6pm – Costume Contest
8:00pm – Aliens EXPOsed event!

Sunday
11:00am – ALIENS CAST GROUP PHOTO!
5:00pm – Spotlight on Sigourney Weaver (Corral – main events)

Moosh you are absolutely the BEST person on the planet to ask that question, and in front of your mom no less! This is your "Ricky Gervais" moment for sure. DO NOT CHICKEN OUT.

(Personally, I agree with the theory that it's a reference to the Mobius illustrated story by Dan O'Bannon that also inspired the tentacled rape-monster at the end of Prometheus, but that would be for James Cameron to confirm...)

****UPDATE*****

I pulled the trigger. I have gone ahead and purchase my "Epic Photo OP" with the Aliens Cast. Total after adding a "digital copy", tax and fees was $518.18 (cad). I am "Group #1"; Theoretically the first group up at 11am Sunday. I am all too happy to welcome anyone who is willing to split the costs evenly. I have already paid in full, so if anyone wants in, I can do paypal in advance or Canadian cash on site.

**UPDATE #2**
The group is currently 3 deep (Myself, Moosh, her mom).

We are in, Myself and Mom if you will have us!

We are cool with digital copies :)

Not sure what our schedule will be like, Convention time will likely be filled with gathering autographs on Saturday/Sunday. I have a strong feeling Bill's autograph line will be massive so I think I'd like to get him done quickly on Saturday.

We definitely want to take in Sigourney's panel on Sunday though!

Absolutely! 2 spots filled. Previous post edited.

The "Epic Photo op" website says only 3 total can be in the pic. If that is the case my group is closed. If the Expo site is correct, I can still take a 4th at a cost of $129 cad. Sorry, I won't know if we can actually do the 4th person until we get there...
